I pressed the ice pack gently against my bruised cheek, wincing slightly at the sting. Allen sat across from me, watching carefully. The living room was silent for a long moment before he finally spoke.

"So," Allen began slowly, raising his eyebrows, "you want to tell me why your face looks like you lost a boxing match?"
