Ben stood just inside the doorway, his eyes wide as they scanned the chandelier above, the marble-tiled floor, the sprawling staircase behind me.

His gaze lingered on the framed photos along the hallway wall, and I saw him swallow as if unsure whether to take another step.

“This is… something else,” he said finally, offering a faint, crooked smile. “I’ve never been in a house like this before.”
