My foster mother sat on a bench, pale and shaken, as I stood a few steps away, trying to process everything.

“I’ll make John take responsibility,” I finally said. “Just tell me which ward he’s in.”

The man narrowed his eyes at me, measuring every word. After a long pause, he told me the room number. I thanked him quietly, though his expression made it clear this was far from over.
