After work, I was already tired when John called me from the hallway.

He walked into the room with a strange look on his face.

“Ruby, I was thinking… maybe we can visit my dad today.”

I turned around slowly. “Now?”

“He’s been asking of you,” John said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Let’s bring something nice. You know he likes handmade things. What about those sweet potato cakes from that bakery you used to like?”
