I caught her just before she hit the ground.

She was in a sorry state.

Her clothes were soaked. Her hair was dripping. Her face looked pale and cold. Her lips had turned blue.

“Ruby,” I said, brushing the wet hair from her face. “Ruby, what the hell happened to you?”

She didn’t answer.

Her eyes moved a little, but she couldn’t speak. Her whole body was shaking.
