Ruby’s POV

I woke to thunder shaking the windows and wind howling outside. For a moment, I didn’t move. The ceiling above me wasn’t familiar. The sheets didn’t smell like home. My heart jumped as I shot upright, blinking through the dim light.

Where the hell was I?

Panic set in fast. My eyes scanned the room. It was neatly kept with soft lighting, a folded blanket on a chair, and my bag in the corner. My head pounded and my limbs felt heavy, like I hadn’t fully shaken off sleep ...
