I looked at Austin.

For a split second, everything around us faded, the Rogues’ snarls, the chaos tearing through the rooftop. All I could see was his face.

He knew this wasn’t just another fight. He knew this was dangerous in a way the others hadn’t been.

And still, he smiled.

Just a small curve of his lips, soft and steady, like he was trying to tell me not to be afraid. As if he were promising something without saying the words.
