Ruby's POV

Sally stood still for a moment after the neighbor’s song ended. The room buzzed with scattered applause and half-drunken cheers. Her fiancé’s eyes were still glued to the woman onstage.

Then Sally walked forward.

“Play it again,” she said to the guitarist.

The man hesitated, but something in her tone made him obey. The first few notes rang out.

Sally closed her eyes and began to sing.
