Chapter 8

He had followed their car the night she got drunk. He was, however, surprised when he got to their home.

When he met her years ago, he had thought she was an average girl, but looking at the mansion she had entered, he was most likely wrong. If her family was wealthy, why was she doing part-time jobs then?

"Can you hear me?"

Her voice brought him back. "I followed you on the night you went to the bar"

"You knew I was back?"

He nodded. "I was also in the bar that day, but I only did it because I wanted to know where you live. Nothing more"

"I don't live here anymore, I have my place now"

"I can take you there"

"There's no need for that. I have something to do here. I'll find my way. Thank you. She alighted and entered the house. She peeped through the gate to make sure he had left.

"Why are you here?" Her body jolted.

"I came to get something I forgot and by the way, I don't owe you an explanation"

She went outside, heaving a sigh of relief when she saw that he had left.

She better not get too close to him. If the investment was declined, then she had no reason to see him again.

The next day, she kept refreshing her email, but there was still no response from them.

It continued for a few days, and it made her a bit anxious. She tried helping out with the Gallery's remodeling in an attempt to get her mind off it, but it wasn't working.

On her way home from the gallery, she finally received the message she had so much anticipated. Her investment application has been accepted. She sighed in relief.

She arrived at her apartment only to meet Cedric at the door.

"Why are you here?" She frowned, extremely suspicious. "How did you know I live here?"

"There's nothing in this city I can't find out"

She didn't argue with him. He was right. Sinclair family basically ruled the city

They had do much influence far and wide and could make anything happen.

"Why did you come here?"

"Sinclair group will invest in your company"

"I know. I saw the message. Thank you"

"Aren't you going to invite me in?"

"Why should I? I believe you only approved it because I convinced you it was going to be worth it"

He raised his hand in surrender. "I know but can't I celebrate with you" he stretched out the bottle.

She received a message from her stalker.

"CONGRATULATIONS"

Her breath hitched and her hands shook. She only just got the message a few minutes ago, but this person already knew? Unless......... she glanced at Cedric. Was it him? She could not trust anyone.

"I'm sorry, but you have to leave" she punched in her passcode and opened the door. He was about to protest, but she shut the door in his face.

She woke up very early and headed to Sinclair group for the contract signing. All through the process, he stole glances at her while she, on the other hand avoided his eyes.

Cressida heaved when the whole process was finished. She could not wait to get out of his face. There was still work to do at the gallery.

Extremely exhausted, she trudged towards her apartment and squeezed her eyes shut in anger when she saw Cedric again. Both hands in his pocket with his back against the wall.

"Mr Sinclair, how may I help you?"

"We are alone. You can call me Cedric"

"That doesn't answer my question sir"

He laughed. "You are trying to draw a line" he pointed out.

"It's good that you know. Please leave if you have nothing to tell me" she tried to sidestep him, but he held her back.

"Marry me" she stared into his eyes, searching for any hint of a lie and found none. He looked dead serious.

"Sorry, what?"

"Marry me" he said, even more firmly this time.

"You are crazy"

Who proposes to someone he barely knows and in this manner? Only a crazy person, and he definitely was. She shut the door in his face...... again.

Cedric smiled. He could easily get in, but that wasn't necessary......for now. He turned around and left.

It continued for the next few days and and whatever she said, he wouldn't listen.

She got to the alley that led to her apartment and had a spooky feeling. She had only walked a few steps when the streetlight went off. Her hair stood on end.

She heard slow, steady footsteps behind her. She gripped her bag tightly, reaching into it and grabbed a pen knife and turned around. She had gotten it few days ago praying she would not have to use it, but from the look of things, her prayers weren't answered.

The alley was dark, but the full moon helped her view a little.

The stalker was clad in black. He was wearing a cap and half of his face was covered. All she knew was that this was a man and he had a big build.

Her eyes strayed to the long knife in his hand.

"Who are you?" She wasn't confident she would be able to take on this man. He was double her height. If she were to run, he would catch with her in no time.

He kept mum, approaching her with long strides, increase his pace with each step.

She gripped her weapon tightly, readying herself. He made to stab her, but she dodged at the last minute but got slashed on the arm.

She went to his back and stabbed him deep in the thigh. He groaned, but he didn't stop, he grabbed her by the neck, yanking the knife off her hand with the other.

She held on the hand on her neck, digging her nails into his flesh, but he had no sign of letting go. She was slowly running out of breath.

"Let her go" Cedric ordered with a gun pointed at the assailant's neck.

He released her. Cressida gasped when she fell, feeling dizzy.

"Are you alright?" Cedric question worriedly. The assailant took advantage of the momentary distraction and ran.

Cedric shot, but the bullet hit his legs. He didn't stop, but Cedric couldn't bother running after him. He had more important to attend to.

"Cressida?"

The man's hand had left a mark on her neck.

"I'm fine" she tried to catch her breath.

He held both of her arm, trying to help her up, but she yelped. He had pressed on the knife wound.

"You are hurt"

"I know that"

"Let's get you to the hospital"

"That is not necessary. It will heal with time"

"It will get infected" she remained stubborn. "Do you have a first aid kit?"

"It's at my house"

"Then let's go home"

"Wait. I…will marry you"
