Chapter 12

She turned around to see the servant lined up in two rows, their hands were folded and their head down.

There was only one man before them. His skin was wrinkled and one could tell he was a little old. His back was bent, probably from bowing for so long. She had no idea when these people arrived behind her.

He smiled when he saw the quizzical look on her face.

"You can call me Butler Louis, madam"

"You can call me by my name. Cressida"

"No madam. That is against the rules" she nodded. "You can command the servants as you wish. They are at your beck and call. Is there anything you will like me to do for you, madam?"

"I have to be somewhere now"

She had to visit Amy and explain everything to her. If there was anything she trusted, it was Amy.

"I also want my things moved to another room"

"Right away, madam"

He beckoned to one of the servants, and she appeared with a tray with tens of car keys in it.

"You can pick whatever car to drive, ma'am"

She randomly picked one. The butler escorted her to the underground garage.

There were rows of exhortation car in the garage, both big and small, which made her wonder if he drove all of them.

She pressed the button on the key and one of the cars was unlocked. She identified the car and realized she had picked the key to a red Lamborghini. She blinked, unsure what to do. Driving this out would mean attracting attention, and that was out of the question.

"Can I pick another key, please?"

"As you wish, madam" the butler replied. He spoke through his earpiece, and soon a servant returned with the tray.

"Is there a car you have in mind?

"I just want something less .......conspicuous"

She looked around and could not see one that was low-key enough. She was about to give up when she spotted a black sedan at the corner.

"Can I get the key to that?" She pointed at it.

The butler quickly found the key and handed it to her.

"This will be your chauffeur from now on"

Standing beside the butler was a lanky man in a tuxedo.

"I don't need a chauffeur. I can drive myself"

She unlocked the car and drove out.

Cedric arrived at the hospice where the director and few other executives were waiting for him, there was a nurse too, looking scared as hell

"How did she go missing right under your noses?" He spat when he arrived at the director's office.

"I walked her around the garden, but I had to attend to an emergency, by the time I returned, she was gone" the nurse said.

"I need the CCTV footage around the time she went missing"

"There is no CCTV in the garden. It recently got damaged"

"What about the main entrance?"

"There is, sir"

The footage was brought to him, and he didn't see find any sign of her.

"I already sent my men to look for her, if she isn't found, you all are going to lose your jobs" They shivered knowing he was really going to make good on his threat. He was the majority shareholder at the hospice, so he basically owned it. But he appointed someone to operate it on his behalf.

He stormed out angrily.

*********

Cressida was momentarily distracted when she tried to pick her phone from the seat beside her. The moment her eyes were back on the road, an old woman sprang out from the side of the road.

She hurriedly slammed on the brakes, narrowly escaping a collision. She breathed out in anger and burst out of the car with the intention to give her an earful when she noticed something was wrong with the old lady. She had this look of someone who didn't know what was going on.

She looked to be in her eighties or nineties. She was frail and short and was putting on a nurse's wear.

There was no way this old woman was a nurse.

She suddenly grabbed Cressida by the wrist. "My grandson! I want to see him. I miss him so much"

Cressida's face softened.

"Who is your grandson? Can you tell me his name?"

The old woman racked her back trying to remember till she got a headache.

It was either this woman was insane or she had dementia. That was what Cressida thought.

She found the nearest police station and drove her there, but the old woman refused to alight.

"Do you know where you live?"

She nodded and said. "I'll take you there"

Cressida sighed in relief. She was finally going to return her to her family.

However, her brows creased when she arrived at the old woman's supposed destination. Cedric's villa.

"You must have made a mistake. This can't be your house"

"It is. I'm sure of it"

The butler was waiting outside the car to receive her. She stepped down from the car and walked to the other side, helping the old woman down.

The butler's eyes widened.

"Madam?"

"You know her?"

"She's Sir Cedric's grandmother"

"Cedric's what?"

**********

"Lucas, what is it" Cedric asked over the phone.

"You grandmother is here, sir"

"At the villa? How is that possible?"

"She came here with your wife, sir"

"With Cressida? I'll be there soon. Make sure she stays there"

He drove home speedily.

His grandmother was having a cup of tea when he arrived.

"Ah! There you are, boy"

"Grandma, what are you doing here?"

"You stopped coming to see me. I missed you, so I had to look for you myself"

Cressida narrated the story to him.

"She saved me" his grandmother said with a smile.

He finally realized why he didn't see her on the footage. She was wearing a nurse's dress.

"How did you get that?"

"I sneaked into the nurse's room and stole one of their cloth. All I had to do was push a wheelchair and no one would notice"

Her laugh was cheeky which Cressida found cute.

Cedric sighed. "You can't stay here for long. You have to go back"

Cressida wanted to ask why he was in a hurry to send her back, but she kept quiet. It wasn't her place to.

"I didn't say I was going to stay here forever. I just wanted to see your face. Don't you want to see me anymore?" Her face turned sad as tears pooled in her eyes.

"Of course not" Cedric crouched and wiped her tears.

"Then why didn't you tell me you were married?"

He turned to Cressida and whispered.

"Did you tell her?"

She shook her head.

"I may be old, but I'm not dense. I can see the ring on your fingers"

Cedric smiled. She was still as smart as ever. She was his father's mother and the founder of Sinclair group also his only living relative. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease a few weeks after his father's death. Some months ago, the doctor informed him that she was in the late stage and had only two years left at most

"You are right. She's my wife"

"I'm so happy you got such a kind wife" she smiled at Cressida. Cressida wouldn't exactly call herself kind.

"I'll have the servants clean you up"

She nodded and left with them.

"Thank you" Cedric said to Cressida.

"It's nothing"

He hesitated for a while.

"I need your help"

"What is it?"

"Can we sleep in the same room tonight? Just for tonight ?"

"I thought we already talked about this?"

"My grandmother is smart. She will realize something is wrong when she finds out we sleep in different rooms and her condition is very fragile"

She pursed her lips, deep in thought.
