Chapter 13

The bed was huge and could comfortably fit four people, but she could not bring herself to share the bed with him.

She breathed in sharply.

"You should sleep on the bed. I'll use the couch"

He raised an eyebrow. Did she hate him that much? Enough to not share the bed with him?

"Are you sure?"

She nodded.

"Then I'll use the couch. You can sleep on the bed"

Without waiting any further. He picked a pillow and slept on the couch.

Unwillingly, she found herself feeling bad. The couch was not small, but it was for his huge body.

The silence was deafening.

"The person who attacked you, do you have any idea who it was?"

"I didn't see his face but from his build, I could tell I have not seen him before. However, I can't say the same about the person who sent him"

"You think someone did?"

She thought of Gavin, but she wasn't going to tell him about that. She will destroy Gavin herself.

"Yes. Someone is trying to scare me with those texts"

"What texts?"

"From the moment I entered the city, I started receiving strange messages. Then the moment I received a message that your company has approved my investment, the unknown number sent a message that said 'congratulations'. At that time, I believe only I knew about it and you. For a while, I suspected you"

Her voice was becoming low.

"Do you think it's someone close to you?"

He got no reply from her, then he realized she was asleep.

He took a long look at her before closing his eyes. It took a while before sleep came.

He was woken up by a knock on the door.

"It's me Cedric. Wake up"

He opened the door and met her all dressed up. She peeped on and saw Cressida fast asleep.

"I just want to let you know that I'm leaving"

"You should at least have breakfast"

"He's right"

He realized Cressida has woken up.

"You should eat something before you leave"

The old lady smiled and nodded.

At the table, in the middle of his breakfast, Cedric left to get his car key, leaving both women.

"I never thought I would live to see this day. Seeing Cedric married? It wasn't something I expected. You can't imagine how much joy I feel that he has someone like you by his side. I know deep down, he's scared of losing me, but sooner or later, I'll have to go.

He lost his mother and his sister, then his father. It has not been easy on him"

Cressida could not hide her shock. She didn't know about all of that. All she knew was the death of his father. She put Cressida's hand in her thin, wrinkled one's.

"If I'm gone, I hope you can take good care of him"

Cressida desperately wanted to tell the old woman not to put so much faith in her. After a year, she will be gone, but she couldn't. She was probably going to faint right there from shock.

"I will" she swallowed. She wasn't the overly sentimental type, but she tears pooled in her eyes.

"Did I miss something?"

Cedric said, staring at both of them at intervals.

The old lady let go of her hand and smiled. "Just women talk"

"Are you ready?"

The old lady nodded.

"Can I......come with you?"

He stared at her for a moment, a little surprised.

"Sure"

He drove to the hospice and they all the executives sighed in relief when they saw the old lady. They were going to keep their jobs.

"We already installed another camera at the garden and some other parts too"

He nodded, but it was obvious he wasn't impressed.

"This must not happen again"

"Who might this beautiful lady be?" The director asked, a flattering smile on his face.

"She's my wife"

They were all astonished, but they didn't dare ask any more questions.

"We'll take our leave now"

They all bowed till he left.

"Is there something on my face? You have been staring at me for a while?"

She looked away. She didn't realize he knew.

"It's nothing. Wait, what are we doing here?" He had stopped his car in front of Sinclair group.

He rounded the car and opened the door for her. She waited for an answer, still seated.

"I'll tell you when we get inside. Can I have your phone?"

She sighed and gave it to him. They had only entered the lobby and people were already staring at them. Cedric was dressed casually, but he still looked hot in it, but her? She was putting on a white T-shirt and denims with a pair of sneakers. Her hair wasn't even properly done!

She ignored them. They took the CEO's exclusive elevator till they arrived at the 28th floor, the technical floor.

He led her in, nodding at the engineers and technicians who greeted him.

She was not surprised when she passed by the advanced laboratories, server rooms and workstations.

Sinclair group was the top company for a reason.

Right now, what she could not fathom was the reason she was here.

They stopped before a room. It wasn't made of glass like the others.

He opened the door. She could see a group of men and women typing away on their computers.

They all stood up the moment they saw him. He gestured them to keep working, but he called one of them over.

"I want you to help me check this phone" he extended the phone to him.

"What for?"

"I suspect your phone was cloned. That was why this person knew everything you do"

"See? You are doing it again. Taking action that pertains to me with asking, telling me first”

"I thought you were going to object"

"You thought…." She let out a harsh bark of laughter.

The other hackers dare not watch, but they were so uncomfortable. Their boss was being scolded… and by a woman?

"I'm doing this for you"

She scoffed. "You always say this"

The man Cedric had given the task to, cleared his throat.

"Sir, the phone was truly cloned"

"What can get rid of it?"

"Yes sir"

"Then get on with it"

The hacker immediately got to work.
