The hospital hallway was bright as Aurora nearly collided with me on her way out. She froze, looking up at me.

For a moment, I saw a flicker of her old stubbornness, the pride that once made her impossible to break. But it faded quickly, swallowed by fear and exhaustion.

I didn’t say much. Just a cold, flat, “You know what you have to do, Aurora. Go back.” Without another word, I led her back to Vicky’s room.
