I didn’t let go of Aurora’s hand as we stepped away from the main hall, leaving behind the echoes of Beta James’s shouting.

She kept her head high, her face set, but I felt her grip tighten just a little. Maybe she needed the anchor, or maybe she just wanted the world to see we stood together now. Either way, I didn’t mind.

She let out a quiet breath. “Let’s go somewhere quieter.”
