Gray’s POV

I struggled to keep Alfred under control. My hands were shaking slightly, and my chest felt too tight. I stood up, letting Alfred’s voice take over mine.

“We’re taking a recess. Eat, handle your tasks, and return later this afternoon,” I said loudly, my voice lower and rougher than usual.

Without waiting for questions, I bowed briefly, turned, and left the council chamber. My steps were fast and heavy. I heard Aurora’s footsteps behind me almost immediately.
