The next day, we went to Tristan Maverick’s house again.

Tristan still didn’t show up.

Instead, his wife welcomed us with the same bright smile, as if yesterday hadn’t happened at all.

“You came again,” she said warmly. “I was worried you might be offended.”

Gray smiled back, relaxed and easy. “Not at all. We enjoy good food and good company.”

I followed them inside. The table was even fuller than the day before.
