James stared at me like I was a joke he hadn’t expected.

Then he laughed scornfully.

“You really are ridiculous,” he said. “I thought you were just after Gray’s money, power, and status.” His eyes narrowed. “I didn’t think you’d actually fall in love with him.”

“Is that all?” I asked.

James’s smile twisted. “What? Don’t tell me you’re offended.”
