We left before dawn.

The road to the airport was quiet. I watched the lights slide past the car window and tried not to think too much about it. Blue stayed close inside me, alert but calm. She didn’t like long journeys. Neither did I.

Gray sat beside me, his presence steady. He didn’t talk much, just rested one arm where it could reach me if needed. I could feel his wolf, Alfred, watching everything around us. Protective and focused.
