The car's tires screeched to a halt in front of Elena's house. I shoved the door open and bolted inside, my heart racing with fear that something terrible had already happened. As I stepped through the threshold, I found the place eerily quiet. I hurried deeper into her room, and my legs froze as I witnessed Elena tied to a chair, a piece of cloth gagging her to prevent her from screaming.
