How I wished I could pull the trigger, to wipe that smug smile off his face once and for all. But I couldn’t. Something held me back—was it the memory of the oy he mentioned, no longer exist, or was it the lives of the people I was desperate to save? I couldn’t quite pinpoint it.

“What?” He tilted his head, his brow arched in mock encouragement. “Go on. Shoot me.” His confidence dripped with arrogance, as if he knew I wouldn’t dare.
