Chapter Five

Silence.

I only kept walking. I wasn't done talking with the caller from earlier.

"How did you know the CEO of blackwood Group, the richest, elegant and promising young man in Europe!" She screamed, jumping around, and I had to beckon her to keep it down.

"God, Anise, this is your hit. "Seduce him, make him fall in love with you and boom use him to get back at Dante!" She advises attempting to take the paper in my hand, but I hide it.

Her eyes glistened in more mischief. Her shoulder brushed me as all her teeth were revealed.

"Is this some kind of contract marriage? How romantic? You will both end up falling in love. Trust me, I've read a lot of books and know how this goes..."

"He is my stepbrother" I cut in, tired of hearing her shenanigans.

Her smile faded as she ducked her head at me, the glass in her hand fell off and she gasped.

I felt weary and walked past her to find the room I was assigned to.

However, her running feet caught up with me. I'd die from her questions, I'm certain of it.

I was suddenly seeing stars, her voice becoming an echo and I found myself falling subconsciously to the ground.

"She's pregnant" the doctor announced immediately. I spurred my eyes open. I felt heavy and the harsh rays from the light above me made my head throb.

Daven was holding my hand, his free hand rubbed his forehead, mildly pushing my hair off my face.

I met his cold, yet worried gaze, piercing me.

"Congratulations sir, you're going to be a father", the nurse behind the daven announced while drawing closer with a sterile tray holding drugs.

Why do people always mistake us for a couple? I quickly pulled my hand from the daven while coiling myself on the bed.

None of us could find ourselves trying to deny her assertion because I just want to leave this place.

I'm pregnant and that felt like good news and bad at the same time.

Tears clouded my eyes as I placed my hands on my stomach. A wry smile escaped my lips and I heaved a sad sigh.

Dante would never know, I'd protect my child from him. They don't deserve a father who would choose another over them.

Daven seems busy talking to the doctor when Becky rushes in at us.

She had walked in with the butler from earlier, holding snacks which she dumped in the hands of the butler.

"Anise", she called, striding closer to the bed, and she sat on the bed.

Her gaze raked over me with a desperate edge, like she needed to see every inch for herself.

"I was scared to death!" She panics, heaving a sigh of relief, but it seemed her eyes were on someone else, Daven.

He was still in the corner, speaking with the doctor who had checked me up, and I was puzzled over what they were discussing.

"It's a good thing I stepped out to get your favorites" she snapped, beckoning the butler to draw near with the meals she got for me.

However, he only dumped them on a table close to us, his cold gaze burning on us both and I swallowed hard.

"I think Daven should fire him" she mused, eyeing him, and she had to stand up to get them herself.

She handed me a burger while rubbing my hair. She seemed so caring, and I knew I couldn't pull this without her.

Daven returned to his position, looking a little bit off. He sighed softly, and I could see Becky stealing peeks from him.

Her cheeks soared out because they blushed. If he smiles, then she'll pass out.

"Can you handle it?" He whispered, and I almost choked on the burger stuck in my throat. I slowly raised my lashes to gaze at him.

His stare was always mesmerizing. He was waiting for a response, and he almost held me again, but I pushed my body lightly from him.

He seemed sad by the reaction I made, but he straightened up and then placed a smile that seemed like a painful grimance.

Becky gasps and swallows, constraining herself from passing out.

"I will, if you don't mind, I just want to be with Becky" I announced, struggling to get those eyes from him.

He rubbed his thighs and then darted his gaze at the butler, who nodded. He took a glance at his wristwatch and then his face grew serious.

Please, something should take him out of her because his presence was taking over me.

"I'd leave her in your care, Becky, just report anything unusual to her" he muttered, took one last glimpse at me and then walked out of the room with the butler which of course, now seemed like his secretary.

Becky covered her mouth and faced me. She was speechless for some seconds and I could see sparkles in her eyes.

"Please hook me up with him" she requested, forgetting the fact that he instructed her to take care of me.

I gave no response as I only rubbed my stomach, heaved a sigh and shifted my gaze to the window.

"I can't believe you have such a hot brother..." Her appraisal began, and her voice disturbed me because the only name I get to hear is Daven, eluding the thought of Dante.

"Bury every fantasy you have about him, you're no match for him" I snapped like a savage killing her fantasy and she pulled a frown.

"I like the secretly dangerous type" she murmured, and I heard that clearly. I laid properly on the bed, losing my appetite.

"About the baby, are you keeping it?" She asked, her voice fading in my head as I was lost in nothing but sadness.

Dante wants someone else, not me, and I just hope to come out of the dilemma soon.

I rose from the bed and gestured to her to bring the paper which Daven had sent earlier.

It was time to give a reply. Becky stood up and dashed outside my room and in a few minutes, she returned with the paper.

I shut my eyes and a strand of tear fell off.

When I spurred them open, I signed the paper without reading it. It's just business and besides daven is just helping.
