CHAPTER 22 —

Time in a crisis is weird — like chewing gum that stretches and snaps. Ninety minutes is a lifetime and also a hiccup, depending on what you do with it. Nicole sat up in the hospital bed with a stale coffee cup in one hand and Anders’ laptop open in the other, looking like a woman who’d chosen to be awake because sleep felt irresponsible.
