Chapter 38: Rough Seas

Day five at sea. Aria hasn't been able to take in food for three days.

Morning sickness combined with seasickness. The ship's doctor calls it unfortunate timing.

Aria calls it hell.

"Try the crackers," Dr. Santos suggests. She's the ship's medical officer. Sixty years old. Kind face. Experienced hands.

"I tried crackers."

"Ginger tea?"

"Tried that too."

"Small sips of water?"

"Everything comes back up."

Dr. Santos checks Aria's pulse. Blood pressure. Temperature.

"The baby?"

"Strong heartbeat. ...
