Chapter 14

“From your parents sir.” Gregory hands a wooden box wrapped in gold silk to Axel who was holding a tab.

He had been occupied before Gregory came.

“Open it.” He commands.

Gregory obediently unwraps the silk carefully with his gloves on, and opens the box. He lifts an oblong shaped burgundy wine.

“It's a hundred years old wine sir.”

Axel chuckles softly as he looks at the ground below from the pogdao.

“They never fail to outdo themselves.”

Mr Gregory smiles with pity for the old couple.

Mr and Mrs Wilbury had lost their only son Scott Wilbury shortly after he was born fifty years ago.

Coupled with their inability to ever conceive children, Axel had bought their late son’s identity.

He lived as a son of different wealthy families every century.

And this time, it was Mr and Mrs Wilburys turn.

But Mr and Mrs Wilbury had grown too fond of him, they took him as their son and tried to come close but he kept pushing them away.

He had turned down their invitations to dinner, balls, business meetings, golf, and luncheon parties.

Their invitations sat in a pile in a corner in his study, dining with dust.

The day they lost their son had been solemn and quiet.

Death hung thick in the air in the corridors of the hospital.

Mr Wilbury had been consoling his wife when they saw him, the most mysterious man they had ever seen.

His voice was deep, smooth, and slow, with a calm intensity that drew attention without trying. It had a slight raspy undertone.

Whether he was speaking softly or firmly, it carried a sense of quiet control.

He walked up to them and made them an offer they could not resist.

With an aching heart, they had consented, and sold their late son's identity to him.

“Humans have a peculiar way of dealing with grief master.”

“Maybe their loss is not something they've come to terms with.”

“I don't think so Gregory, it's been fifty years.”

“I think they only want to experience what it feels like to have a son master.”

“Mmh.. they do. But I don't need humans disgusting love.” He looks at the bottle of fragile perfection in Gregory's hands.

“Give it to the creature at the West side of the mansion. I'm sure she has never tasted old wine. If she makes any more reckless moves, at least she gets to try something nice before she dies.”

He instructs Gregory.

“Yes master.” He bows and leaves

Ariel's attempt to sabotage a wedding the previous week was a close call. If he had paid her no attention, she'd be dead before the wedding ends.

Her actions were thoughtless and dumb, and had been spurred by her desperation for revenge.

He was already getting impatient, his curse had not been lifted yet.

He was wondering how else he could form a bond and be free to discard Ariel.

Axel swipes his tab screen back and forth, he was meeting his business partner soon, he had to be armed with information.

The picture of a young looking man glides across the screen in swift motion as he slides.

“A werewolf? interesting.” He says.

His business partner clearly had a second side he'd like to keep from the rest of the world.

Their new merger was going to be fun.

It's a beautiful morning in Singapore, the window blinds filters the warm translucent lights resting it's head on the marble floor of the sparsely furnished office.

The alpha sat behind a wide, dark wood desk, his presence filling the room despite the silence. Broad-shouldered and calm, he leaned back in his leather chair, The light caught the silver in his hair and the faint scar on his neck.

A young man walks into the office in quick strides and curtly hands over a file to the tall sharp jawed , handsome muscular man behind the table.

“Here are the reports you asked for sir.”

Jaques snatchs the papers from his secretary, and turns the leaflets quickly. He glues his eyes on the pages, trying to find a loophole. Nothing ever escaped his scrutinizing eyes. He paid attention to even the tiniest details.

Their newest business partner was too perfect to be true.

They were collaborating with a leather company to test run a shoe collection line for a month or two.

“His parents are Mr and Mrs Wilbury, the couple that bought two hundred properties during the great auction forty years ago. They had a lot of assets before now, a total estimate of their networth would be around thirty billion dollars.”

His secretary explains for more context.

Jaques looks at the picture on the document.

Axel's sharp eyes stare right back at him. Axel’s company has sent him a multi year offer and also offered a blank cheque financing, and they could do more without going bankrupt.

Jaques felt Axel was not showing the world all his wealth.

If this was not all, then how much exactly did he have?

Jaques looks at the record again.

Even a hundred years on earth could not amass the kind of assets Axel had, and there was not a single article about him online.

There was something unsettling about Axel, Jaques could deduce he was no ordinary man. He glances through the pages of the report several times.

Jaques had always prided himself as the wealthiest bachelor in his city, but all his assets were barely up to half of what Axel had.

“Sir, you have a call, the beta wishes to speak with you.” His secretary informs him. But he waves it aside.

“Not now Julius.”

Jaques was the alpha of the silver claw pack, they were the last werewolves on earth.

Their kind had gone extinct a long time ago. His pack were the last ones left, so they stuck together and occupied high positions in the country. They were in every sector, including politics, business, finance and the likes.

He looked at the records again, his eye brows creased in suspicion.

Axel was born twenty nine years ago. Aside his parents wealth, he had thirty one companies across the city and beyond. How did he do it?

Jaques was unsettled, he was a naturally competitive person who did not appreciate anyone beating him to his own game.

Doing a background check wouldn't cut it, he had to see things for himself.

Whoever this mysterious man was, he was going to uncover his true identity.

“We're visiting Pepa, we may find diamonds.”

He declares with a wicked smirk.
