Chapter 3

KAYLA POINT OF VIEW.

I placed my hand on his hard-as-rock chest, pushing him away from me, quickly. "Don’t touch me," I said, my voice cracking. I hated that it cracked. I wanted to sound strong, fearless, but I couldn't. "I'm not yours, I'm Kayla, and I don't belong to anyone." I replied.

He didn’t flinch. If anything, his eyes grew darker, like my words just challenged him instead of pushing him away. He didn't move back, but I kept my hand there, between us, pretending it could keep his heat off my skin.

"And please let me go I didn't come here as a spy neither am I a rogue. I have to be in my aunt place now," I blurted out, not knowing where the boldness comes from.

Alpha Zuko’s eyes narrowed at me. He didn’t move. He just stood there, looking down at me like he owned my air. "You’re in my pack now," he mumbled, his voice low and sharp. "That makes you mine."

A chill ran down my spine. I pulled my hand back quickly and hugged it to my chest. "I’m not yours. I don’t even know you," I shot back, lifting my chin higher.

"I didn’t come here to be claimed by some Alpha who thinks he owns every girl that steps into his land."

He raised a brow, his mouth curving into a smirk. "Some Alpha?"

His voice was hoarser than before. He stepped closer and I instinctively stepped back, but there was nowhere to run. My back hit the wooden wall behind me. I felt the cold press of it through my thin shirt.

He leaned down, his face so close I could see the faint scar near his jawline. And no matter how I try to hide it, I couldn't just deny the pull.

I pressed my back harder against the wall, trying to stay away from him, but there was nowhere to go. His breath brushed my ear.

"Keep fighting me if you want, little wolf," he growled, "It only makes me want to break you." he whispered close to my ear.

My heart beat so loud I was sure he could hear it. I bit my lip, trying not to look scared. I didn’t want him to see how much power he had over me right now.

"I’m not yours," I forced out the word. "You can’t just claim me because I crossed your land."

Zuko pulled back a little, studying my face like he was reading a book. A small smirk played at the corner of his mouth. "We’ll see. How about we play a game?"

"What game?" I asked, trying to keep my voice from cracking.

"Humm, this." he said, then he lean closer to me, his lips inches away from mine, just as he was about to slam his lip with mine, the door open.

The Beta walked in clearing his throat, staring from me to the Alpha, he glanced at me, then gave Alpha Zuko a death glare. He kept clenching and unclenching his fist.

"I thought I told everyone to get out?" Zuko asked, sounding pissed.

"You did," the Beta said, his voice low. "But I stayed."

Zuko clenched his fist in anger. His eyes moved from the Beta to me. The Beta’s shoulders went stiff. I could see the muscle in his jaw move like he was holding something back.

I stood there, stuck between them, my heart beating faster. Zuko stepped closer to the Beta, his voice rough. "Out, now."

The Beta didn’t move at first. His eyes stayed locked on mine, almost like he was trying to say something, but he couldn't find the courage. Then he gave Zuko a short nod and turned away. He didn’t look back as he left. The door clicked shut.

"Nice save," Zuko whispered, his voice low, almost amused. "Did you enjoy that?" He brushed his fingertip against my cheek.

I could barely breathe, my chest felt too tight. I felt just two hearts beating for me, one fierce and possessive, the other protective and troubled.

"I… I don’t know," I stammered. My mouth went dry, Processing it all was taking a heavy toll on me. From leaving Aiden who I thought was my mate, to meeting the Alpha and the Beta of Silver Creek who are also my mate.

Zuko’s smirk faded, his look turn darker. "You will," he whispered, wrapping his fingers around my wrist.

Zuko’s fingers gripped my wrist tight. I felt his body heat, deep within my skin, strong enough to make my heart stutter.

"Let me go," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. And I failed woefully.

His eyes locked on mine, his gaze darkened, and sharpened. "No."

I pulled my arm but he didn’t budge. His grip was like stone. My chest felt tight, not just because he was so close, but because I felt that strange pull again. I felt our bond again.

But under it, I felt another heartbeat. It belong to the beta. His bond was softer but strong too. My wolf felt it, and she wouldn’t calm down. Two ties pulling at me at once.

I bit my lip so he wouldn’t see my hands shaking.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked. "I’m not your toy."

His grip softened a little, but his eyes remained as cold as ever. "You came to my land, that makes you mine. You’ll learn that soon."

I hated the word mine. Aiden had said it too, and look where that got me. Now here I was, again, back to being someone’s prize.

"Why do you care so much?" I pushed, my voice cracking. "You don’t even know me."

Zuko leaned closer. I could smell him, he smelled of smoke, pine, and like cold iron. His breath brushed my forehead. "I don’t need to know you, I feel you. That’s enough."

My stomach turned. I couldn’t do this. My wolf couldn’t do this. Two mates? The thought made my head spin. A rogue bond would’ve been easier than this.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block it all out. But I couldn’t block the Beta’s face from my mind, the way his eyes locked on mine when he wouldn’t leave. The way his jaw had tightened when he saw Zuko close to me. Like he wanted to rip the Alpha away from me, but couldn’t.

Two hearts beating for me.

It made me sick, it made me feel wanted, it made me feel trapped.

I opened my eyes. Zuko was still watching me. He didn’t know, none of them knew, he thought I was only his.

He let my wrist go at last. My skin still burned where his hand had been.

"Get some rest," he ordered. "You’re not leaving anytime soon." I glared at him, but couldn't mutter anything.

He turned to the door. "Dante," he called loudly.

The Beta, Dante, stepped in. His eyes didn’t leave mine for a second. I felt that strange pull again.

"Take her to the house," Zuko said. "Make sure she stays there, and doesn't try to escape."

Dante’s jaw tightened, he didn’t say anything back. He just nodded once. "Come," he said to me, with an emotionless and flat voice, but his eyes were soft.

I followed him out, my legs weakened. I felt Zuko’s eyes burning into my back until the big door shut behind us.

Outside, the night air was cold. Dante walked in front but kept looking back at me. He stopped by a black car. "Get in," he said authoritatively.

The ride was so quiet. I could feel him staring sometimes but he didn’t speak. My head was messy, I couldn't think straight, and My wolf wasn’t helping either. She was practically purring beside Dante.

When we stopped, I saw a big house. It looked dark, empty and abandoned. My chest tightened in fear. "No one’s here," I whispered.

Dante didn’t answer. He shut off the engine and got out, opening my door. I stepped out but before I could say a word, he grabbed my hand. His touch was warm. He pulled me close, so close my chest brushed his.

"Why are you..." I started but he pushed me gently against the car, my breath caught in my throat.

"You feel it too, don't you?" he said, voice rough and cold.

I froze when he said that. My back was cold against the car door, but Dante’s hands were warm on my waist. He held me like he didn’t want to let go.

His forehead pressed against mine. I could feel his breath on my lips. My heart was beating too fast.

"You feel it too, Kayla. Don’t lie," he repeated. His voice was rough, his eyes were dark.

I swallowed hard. I wanted to speak but my throat felt tight. "Dante… we can’t… I.. don't.." I whispered, but I couldn't find the right word to say.

His thumb lifted my chin. He looked at my lips. I felt my whole body tense up.

"You’re mine too, not just his. You belong to me and me only, and guess what I don't share," he said with a deep breathy voice. His words made my chest ache, my wolf howled inside me.

He kissed me before I could stop him. His lips were warm, rough, hungry. I gasped into his mouth but my hands grabbed his shirt instead of pushing him away.

He pressed me harder against the car. His hand slid up my back, holding me close. My mind screamed to stop but my body didn’t listen, neither could my wolf. We were both enjoying this I guess.

He pulled back a little, his lips were still brushing mine. "Say it," he breathed out. "Say you feel it too."

My lips quiver. "I feel it," I whispered. It was true. I hated it, but it was true.

He smiled a little. His mouth crashed back on mine. This kiss was deeper, messier. My hands were shaking, and I couldn’t make them stop.

Suddenly I heard a low, angry growl. My eyes shot open.

Dante froze too, but he didn’t move away. He turned his head a bit but kept me close.

Zuko was there. Standing near the car. His eyes were wild. His chest was rising and falling like he was about to explode.

"What the hell is this?" Zuko’s voice was cold but I could feel the anger coming from it.

Dante didn’t move, instead he held me tighter and closer to him. "She’s not yours," Dante said. His voice was cold as ice.

Zuko took a step closer. His eyes were on me. "Kayla," he said, his voice low. "Did he touch you?"

I opened my mouth but I couldn’t speak. My lips still felt warm from Dante’s kiss. My wolf was restless, pulling me in two directions.

Zuko’s eyes snapped to Dante. He stepped closer, clenching and unclenching his fist at his sides. "Let her go, now!"

Dante didn’t move. His body pressed harder into mine, like he was daring Zuko to touch him.

"She’s not your property, Zuko, she's my mate. I felt it immediately I saw her at the border." Dante yelled loudly.

"Enough." I heard a loud familiar voice said behind us. I turned and who I saw made me froze on the spot”, all the blood drained from my face.
