CHAPTER 4

KAYLA POINT OF VIEW.

I never expected to see him here, not now, not ever. What the hell was he doing in this place?

"Dad," Alpha Zuko called softly.

I stared between them both in shock and confusion. How the hell was Carter, my father’s best friend, also Zuko’s father? I had never connected the two.

At that moment, I knew I was finished. He would definitely tell my father I was here, and everything would fall apart. I was about to turn to run away, but before I could even take a step or hide my face his eyes fell on me.

"Kayla?" he called, as if he was asking to be sure.

I froze in place, unable to move. I kept looking between Dante and Zuko waiting for them to speak on my behalf, but they were also staring at me in confusion.

"Carter." I replied, staring up at him.

"What are you doing here in my pack?" he asked.

I stayed silent, searching for the best thing to say that wouldn't sound suspicious. And I was hoping he didn't know about my wedding, which is almost impossible since he is my father's best friend, I know my dad was surely going to tell him about it.

"My aunt lives here, I came to see her" I replied, trying my best to look composed.

He raised his eyebrow, finding it difficult to believe me. But I didn't care. He nodded his head in reply. I let out a deep breath I didn't know I was holding.

I did a happy dance in my head. "Maybe he doesn’t know about the wedding,” my wolf, Amy, muttered in my head

"I guess, but that's almost impossible. He is my father's best friend, and they literally tell each other almost everything." I replied to her.

"Then maybe he's hiding something from your father, or from you." Amy replied.

Before I could reply Amy, he walked to Zuko, whispering in his ear. I tried using my wolf power to eavedrop, but I didn't know how he blocked it so I couldn’t hear whatever he was saying.

Zuko’s jaw tightened as he listened to whatever he was saying. He gave a short nod, his eyes staying on me for a very long time. At that moment I knew whatever Carter told him wasn't good for me.

His eyes got red and with a long stride he walked up to me yanking me from them to his car.

I tried shoving him off, but it was futile. He was by far stronger and bigger than I am. "What the fuck are you doing? Leave me the hell alone!" I yelled, trying to free myself from him.

"I think this isn't what you should be doing if you want to stay alive. You have to calm the fuck down and follow me." he muttered, sounding really mad.

He pushed me inside the car slamming the door hard, making me flinch in fear. He went into the driver’s side, driving off angrily.

The ride was silent, none of us saying anything to the other, I was tempted to ask him questions, but I kept quiet because he looked so angry, and one look from him could send me six feet under the ground.

In no time we reached a very dark secluded area. He came down off the car angrily glaring at me. "Out now," he said. I obeyed him immediately, not wanting to see his bad side. But we stood feet apart.

"I will ask some questions, and if you dare lie to me you won't like the outcome," he said angrily.

I nodded my head bracing myself for whatever is about to come.

"Who the hell are you, and what are you doing in my pack?" he growled." Choose your words wisely, little wolf, your life depends on it."

"I'm Kayla Reedwood. And I came here to see my aunt," I replied. "Haven’t we passed this?" I asked in confusion. Whatever his father told him must have turned him against me..

"Wrong answer. And that was before I know you were a liar. This is your last chance Kayla Reedwood. Who are you? And what are you doing here?" he asked again pissing me off.

I glared at him in anger, running out of patience. "Maybe you’re deaf, but I know you’re not blind," I snapped, my patience burning out. I didn’t care about the consequences anymore. "I said I'm Kayla, and I'm here for my aunt. What do you find difficult comprehending?" I asked fed up with his repeated questions.

In no time he closed the gap between us yanking me to him aggressively. He held my neck between his hand, almost squeezing the life out of me.

"Don't you dare give me that attitude little wolf. I'm the Alpha and you have to fucking obey me." He growled, voice filled with authority.

"Since you've decided to be stubborn, then you leave me no choice but to do this the hard way." he said.

Suddenly he pulled me against the car, my back pressing harshly against the hard metal. He gripped my chin in an aggressive hold. My wolf stirred uneasily, having to choose between wanting to bow to him in submission or wanting to bite his hand off for daring to touch me.

"I gave you an answer already, what else do you want?" I asked calmly. I stare deeply into his eyes, trying to find the right words to say to make him believe me, but I couldn't think of any at the moment. I was lost staring into his blue ocean eyes.

For a few seconds, his nostrils flared, and his eyes darkened, not just with rage, but something else. I could feel his wolf trying to take control, likewise mine but we kept trying to keep them at check. Letting our anger take best of us.

He finally let go of me dragging me to him to God knows where. I could deny that his touch was doing something to my wolf and I something I can't explain. Some minutes later we got to a door. He opened it, and I was hit with the smell of dust, blood, and sweat. But I couldn't see anything because it was dark.

Then he clapped his hands twice, and the light turned on. I looked around trying to take in the sight of everything, and I froze on my spot.

The stench of sweat and blood filled my nose. The cell was filled with rough-looking men, their eyes hungry and dangerous. My stomach twisted, I knew exactly what would happen if I was left here with them. "Look around," he said. "Since you’ve decided to be smart, this is where you are going to stay, until you do the right thing," he said, about to walk away, but I held him back.

"You can leave me here with them. Everyone here is men, and you know what they are going to do to me once we are left alone." I uttered calmly, holding back my tears.

"Bold of you to think I care about they are going to do with you," he said, giving me a mocking look. "You have to fight for your survival, and I don't care about how you do it."

"If they touch me, it’ll be on your hands," I said through clenched teeth.

His lips curled in a smirk that didn’t reach his eyes. "No, little wolf, it will be on yours. You brought this on yourself."

My wolf snarled, craving for him, but my human side knew better. Zuko could easily break me with one wrong move and feel nothing. After all, he was known for his ruthlessness and his iron fist ruling.

"Please don't punish me like this." I succumbed, not letting go of his hand.

"Give me one reason not to leave you with them. If it’s good, I’ll consider a private cell."

"Because I’m not a criminal," I retorted firmly, meeting his eyes. "I’ve done nothing to deserve being thrown to men who would tear me apart for fun. Give me a private cell if you must, chain me to the wall if it makes you feel safer, but don’t pretend that this is the way of protecting your pack."

He stared down at me, as if weighing my words. "Hmm, I'm a bit impressed. You sound smart for the first time since I’ve met you, " he said, dragging me out of the cell into another cell. He pushed me in, locked it immediately and went out without looking back.

I pulled at the door yelling for him to come back, but he ignored me. I tried shifting to my wolf form, but I felt really weak. I guess the cell was made with silver bars, which made it impossible for me to shift.

I finally sank to the floor, knowing I was trapped here for however long he decided. I wasn't one to give up, but I knew there was no chance to escape.

I curled up on the cold floor, sobbing until my throat burned. "How much worse can my life get?" I whispered into the silence. Why was I locked up? What did his father say to him that made “his countenance change towards me? I kept asking myself all this, but I have no answer to it.

Whatever it was, it turned Zuko from cold to deadly in seconds. And now… I was trapped, alone, weak, and completely at his mercy.

I curled myself into a ball on the cold floor, tears stinging at the corner of my eyes as the silver made cell, made me feel a scrunching and unbearable pain. It felt like my bones were breaking into pieces.

Finally I let the tears down, unable to keep it in anymore. I became so tired and weak, in no time I blacked out.

My sleep was cut short by slow, careful footsteps.. I sat up immediately, still feeling like shit. I listened carefully, making sure it wasn't my mind playing tricks on me, but I was right, someone was taking a slow, stealthy step towards the direction of my cell. And whoever it was, was definitely here for me, because I'm the only one located in this section of the cell.

I move back quickly, hiding in a dark corner. Hoping I won't be seen by whoever was coming here. The step vanished, and I heave a sigh of relief, finally stepping out of where I hid myself.

Immediately I stood up, my eyes landed on the shoe. I look up trying to see the face of whoever it was, but my eyes landed on his chest instead. Making it impossible to see his face, because his height towered over the cell..

"Who are you?" I questioned finally mustering up courage.

"Still breathing, are you?” The voice slithered through the dark, dripping with disdain and mockery.

My blood went cold. That voice had haunted me since I was a child.

Slowly, I raised my head. And there he was, Carter. My father’s so-called best friend.

"What do you want from me, Carter?" My voice cracked with shock. Why would he come here, to me?.

Carter and I never have a good relationship, though he was my father's best friend, but I detest him. I knew he did too. I hated him most for the day I overheard him telling my father that I should be sold off, that I was worthless because I was a girl

So him being here will be of no good to me. "What are you doing here?" I asked again, getting pissed off by his silence.

"Let's make a deal," he finally replied, breaking the silence.

"And why the hell would you think I’d ever want anything to do with you?" I demanded

He dragged his finger around the silver bar, the way he did that made my skin crawl in fear. "Let’s say because your life is right in my hands, Kayla. One word from me…" He leaned in until I could smell his awful breath. "…and you’re gone."

Every muscle in my body tensed up at his statement, I began to remember all the hateful things he did to me as a young girl. "I hate you!!" I yelled out. "And what did you tell Alpha Zuko, that made him lock me up?" I asked.

"Oh that?" he added, laughing out like the maniac he is. "Guess," he said moving his head closer to mine, showing off his brown teeth.
