"This is totally insane. Why am I hearing of this now? I mean, what was your intention?" Eirene threw the glass cup of water she was sipping on across the room and it took only a hair breath for it to miss Claw as he stared at her with sober eyes.
"I did it for you. I couldn't bear seeing you fall into a great depression that knowing of the fact that you won't be able to produce a child would cause. I couldn't do that to you, you and I know how much you love kids." Eirene sighed as she grabbed the glass vase on the top of the table and threw it at him again.
This time, he let it hit him on purpose and the glass piece tore through the skin on his arm and blood dripped by she didn't bat an eyelid.
"Did you ever think that I would have to find out? What did you think? That I would continually get fake pregnancy reports from the doctor and get miscarriages."
She placed both hands on the side of her temples and shut her eyes like she was about running mad.
"I don't even understand. I'm sure I had miscarriages, I saw blood flowing at a particular time and it wasn't my time of the month. Claw explain to me and don't leave out a fucking detail! I'm about running mad here."
Tears were streaming down her eyes as she glared at him while he tried to approach her.
"Rene, please just hear me out." He got to the bed and tried to hold her shoulder but she shrieked away like his very touch was irritating her and that broke him into a thousand pieces.
"Don't try to coax me, tell me what I need to hear." She sighed and he took a deep breath, he hadn't even realized that he was holding his breath all this while.
"I had to tell the doctor to fake the reports and for the blood stains, that was me. That's why I instructed the doctor to sedate you for some days so you would believe it was a miscarriage.
As I say it now, I understand it was wrong in all ways and I'm sorry. It's not my fault I bought you as a breeder and ended up falling in love with you." The last statement had Eirene looking at him as she didn't know if she was to stay angry with him or forgive him.
Not regarding the fact that he made a fool out of her for so long, he did it so she wouldn't get hurt.
"Wow! So stupid of me to think that I would ever give birth to pups in this lifetime, so foolish of me."
"Eirene, you—" She held up her hands to stop him from saying anything and sighed.
"You were arguing with the elders and I'm sure it had something to do with me, so what were they talking about? Don't dare lie to me. Do they want you to take in another wife?" Claw sighed and Eirene's body tensed up as she swerved to stare at him.
"They would never say something like that, Rene. They love you just as much as I do." She tilted her lips in a sarcastic manner as she crossed her hands over her chest like she wanted to hide from the rest of the world.
"Are you done? Are you ready to tell me what I want to hear?" She grimaced and he sucked in a deep breath;
Though if you know that you're going to lie to me, I'd rather that you keep it to yourself."
"Rene, they didn't want me to get another Luna or wife. They want me to get a breeder that could give birth in your place." Her eyes widened as she stared at him for a while before a smile crossed her lips to his very surprise.
"Rene, I don't like the look on your face. I won't get a breeder if you don't want to, I don't want to anyway."
Eirene stared at him for a few seconds before straightening her back and stood up; pacing round the room like she was trying to contemplate on what to do.
"From what I heard, if you don't get an heir; you wouldn't be able to go beyond being an Alpha to a Lycan. You might even be demoted to an ordinary wolf." She stated and he nodded wondering what was playing out in her mind.
"You're right. But that's not a problem, Rene. I can—" She raised her hands in a gesture that he should stop talking and he pursed his lips immediately.
"Do not tell me that it is not a problem, you of all people know how much of a problem it is. It is a huge problem." Claw sighed, staring intently at her and she heaved.
"So all we have to do to protect the Alpha throne is to get a breeder and that's all? Fair enough." She nodded and stopped walking while his eyes widened.
"Hold on, you're cool with it? You're okay with it?" His eyes widened in disbelief while she nodded slowly.
"Yes, I'm okay. It's not like you're getting married to her or there's any strong attachment. I can't give birth so there's no way out, people take surrogates all the time."
"Wow, I didn't know you'd be fine with it."
After their conversations that day, the next day Eirene took it upon herself to scout for a maiden that would be her breeder. Regardless of the fact that it was just a surrogate mother, she didn't want anyone to be a threat to her home.
And that day, she met Claw just as he got off work from his office;
"I think I've found the perfect breeder for the both of us." She giggled and he raised his brows in question.
"Who could that be? Do I know her?"
"Of course, yes. My personal maid, Ayla. She has proven herself worthy several times.”
