My eyes opened and for the first time in weeks my head felt clear. The fog that had been hanging over my thoughts was gone. I could think properly again.

I looked around the room. Iris was not here. The house was quiet. I carefully pulled myself up to sitting and waited for the dizziness that usually came. It did not happen.
