Chapter Fourteen – Viral Again: The Morning After and a Million Views

The day started with coffee.

Then came chaos.

---

Malik’s Phone – 7:12 AM

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

He groaned and rolled over, grabbing his phone with one eye still shut.

Thirty-two notifications.

Twelve unread messages.

Three missed calls.

And a trending tag.

> #RamenWithRowe

“New York’s Billionaire Queen spotted on a date with her ‘Fake Bae’—but this time, it’s real.”

Malik blinked.

“Ah, sh*t.”

---

The Photo That Broke the Internet

There it was.

A slightly blurry shot, but unmistakable:

Tina Rowe and Malik Carter, standing outside the ramen shop under soft streetlight, her lips pressed to his, both soaked in rain and smiling like nobody was watching.

Unfortunately, somebody was.

Probably five somebodies.

The photo had exploded overnight, reposted by every gossip site, lifestyle blog, and Twitter user with too much time.

> Rowe Goes Real?

“Sources confirm Tina and Malik’s ‘PR stunt’ is heating up. Are we witnessing a billionaire romance for the ages?”

Even CNN PopCulture had picked it up.

Malik stared at the screen.

Then whispered, “I’m so screwed.”

---

RoweTech Headquarters – 9:00 AM

Tina had barely walked into the building before Dani cornered her with an iPad and three expressions: excited, concerned, and very amused.

“Have you seen the trending tag?” Dani asked.

“I’ve seen the internet melt down before,” Tina said, brushing past. “It’s nothing new.”

“Except this time… it’s about you. And it’s adorable.”

Tina stopped mid-step.

Adorable?

No one used that word to describe her. Not even puppies dared.

She snatched the iPad from Dani and scrolled.

The comments were overwhelmingly positive:

> “I didn’t know billionaires could look this in love.”

> “Tina Rowe deserves happiness. And this broke-but-fine man is IT.”

> “That kiss?? Oscar-worthy. Feed me more.”

She blinked.

And for once... she didn’t feel like defending herself.

---

Crisis PR: Not Today, Satan

Her PR team barged into her office an hour later, all carrying clipboards and expressions of doom.

“We need a response,” said Jenna, her head of media. “If we lean into this, we could spin it as a humanizing moment. Your quarterly approval ratings will skyrocket.”

“I’m not a politician,” Tina said flatly.

“True. But you’re an icon. And icons don’t get to be human unless they let people in on the illusion.”

Tina looked around the room. “So you want me to sell my private life for brand clout?”

“It’s already sold, honey,” Jenna said. “We’re just choosing the packaging.”

Tina stood up.

“Fine. But we do it on my terms.”

---

Malik’s World – Spinning

Meanwhile, Malik was dodging reporters like a pro.

One woman followed him into a corner store asking if he was “emotionally prepared to be America’s new favorite man.”

He replied by buying plantain chips and disappearing out the back.

Jay filmed it on his phone.

“I swear, you’re one more headline away from being asked to host the Grammys,” Jay joked.

Malik collapsed onto the couch.

“I didn’t sign up for this.”

“Yes, you did,” Jay reminded him. “Fake relationship? Public deal? Remember that contract thing?”

“But it’s not fake anymore.”

Jay turned serious. “So tell her that.”

---

The RoweTech Livestream

At 3:00 PM sharp, Tina went live on RoweTech’s official Instagram account.

Over 1.2 million people tuned in within the first minute.

She sat on a minimalist couch in her office, hair pulled back, face calm.

“Hi, everyone,” she began. “I don’t usually do this, but today felt important.”

She paused.

“I’ve always valued privacy. But lately, my life’s been… more visible than usual. And instead of hiding from it, I want to tell you the truth.”

A beat.

“Yes, that photo is real. Yes, the date was real. And yes… so are the feelings.”

Twitter broke in half.

But she wasn’t done.

“I don’t need to explain myself. But I will say this: Malik Carter is not a prop, not a punchline, and not a PR move. He’s someone I’ve grown to care about. Deeply.”

She smiled, the softest it had ever looked on camera.

“And that’s all you need to know.”

She ended the stream.

The world collectively gasped.

---

Malik Watched It Too

He stood in the corner of his room, phone still in hand, heart pounding.

Jay was frozen next to him.

“You okay, man?”

Malik didn’t answer.

Then he said, “She didn’t have to say all that.”

“But she did.”

He stared at the screen again.

“She really meant it.”

“Duh.”

Then Malik picked up his keys.

“Where you going?” Jay called after him.

“To make it real.”

---

The Last Scene – Her Penthouse

Tina opened the door just as he was about to knock.

Neither spoke for a few seconds.

Then Malik said, “You didn’t have to go that hard for me.”

“I did,” Tina replied. “Because it’s not just about you. It’s about me, too.”

“You’re not afraid anymore.”

“I’m terrified,” she whispered. “But I’m done hiding.”

He stepped closer.

“Me too.”

She didn’t pull him in.

He didn’t ask.

They just kissed again — no rain, no cameras, no ramen, no witnesses.

Just the silence of two people who finally let go.
