Chapter 4: The Punishment

Nightfall, the lycan wolf pack.

Author’s pov.

The healers all gathered around her, and they placed her on an altar, her body was covered in runes.

They had been doing everything they could to bring her back to life, but it was too late, her hair had gone dark completely, and she was gone.

“Tell me? What can be done?” The alpha stood before the chief healer and she gave him a weak smile.

“I am afraid nothing my prince, the princess is long gone with the ancestors.”

“What? My baby??” Luna Claire sobbed, she was dishevelled, her hair was all over the place like she had been pulling it out, and her mascara smudged her whole face from crying too much.

“My lady.” Her handmaidens ran to her trying to hold her up before she hurt herself again as she grieved over the loss of her child.

“But she is a pure-breed healer, there has to be something?” The alpha pleaded

“Alpha Garret, there is no other way, there is no trace of life, her hair is completely blackened, she is dead.”

Alpha Garret sucked in a deep breath, he could feel it in him, the moment her soul departed but he didn’t want to believe it.

“We understand that you are in mourning but there are rites to be down, we need to go to where she was killed so we can appease her spirit and whoever committed this atrocity must DIE!!” The chief healer’s voice echoed in the room.

“What?” Luna Claire looked from her husband to the chief healer.

“We must appease the spirits of the dead.”

“Who killed my baby Garret?!” She latched on to him and her handmaids ran to her again.

“My lady.”

“Hand the bastard over, let me kill them!”

Alpha Garret let out a deep breath, he turned to leave, he had no emotion on his face, and he was yet to tell them who did it.

“Garret! Garret! No! Do not!” Claire yelled after him as she watched him go. “Garret!”

….

Alpha Garret’s pov.

Walking to the terrace, I watched the moon, it was a full moon, my wolf screamed to be let out, I had not had a good run in years, confined to a palace I had to tend to matters after matters with no ending.

But now, my child has broken the law, and there is no saving her.

“What do you think huzo?”

General Huzo emerged quietly from the shadows, he wore a sombre look as he looked down at his king.

General Huzo stood at 6’3, a study mass of muscles and hair.

“I believe you should let the red harbour have her.”

“She won’t survive out there.”

“If you keep her here, the city won’t stop until they have had her head, Piper is the next alpha in line of succession, they have always hated Jasmine.” He reminded him.

“But she is innocent, she didn’t kill her, a rogue did.”

“Do you believe that?” General Huzo turned to look at him.

“Do you?” He asked him as well.

“It doesn’t matter what I believe, what matters is what the people want, Jasmine can’t live here anymore, if she does, they will kill her, she will be tagged as someone who killed her sister, she will never be safe.”

“I don’t know Huzo.”

“The letter was dispatched yesterday, I assume that Red Harbour will be visiting us on the ‘morrow, you might want to say your goodbyes now.” General Huzo added.

“Claire will hate me.”

“At least Jasmine will be alive.”

….

In the dungeon.

Jasmine’s pov.

It was dark, I don’t know where he locked me up, but General Huzo just threw me in there like I was a lifeless toy.

“Jamsine.”

“Mom??” Rising from where I sat, I ran to the prison bars, my mom stood there, her face.. she looked like she had been crying. “Piper, Mom? Pipper, how is she?”

No response.

“Mom? What’s going on is ….”

A slap from her sent me down the cold floor of the cell, knocking out the relief I felt in me. “Mom?” This was the first time she would ever strike me.

“I regret ever giving birth to you! I regret ever conceiving you! You have always hated her! You were always trying to kill her! You lied to her and you led her into the forest so you could kill her and blame the rogues!”

“Mom… I…” sobbing I looked up at her, why won’t she believe me? “I didn’t do it, I swear, I didn’t, I told her to stay, I told her to stay.”

“Liar! Liar!!”

“Mom, you have to entice me..”

“I will kill you myself.” She grabbed my hair from the other side and started to yank it, hitting me against the cold bars with her werewolf strength.

“Mom..”

…..

Ten minutes later, her handmaids had led her out finally, but not before she disowned me and called me a murderer to my face.

“Jasmine.” I heard my dad call my name.

“Dad, Dad you have to believe me.” Not minding my bruises, I ran to the iron gates, if he believed me, then I would be safe. “Dad I..”

I stopped taking when I saw the look in his eyes, he was looking down at me like I was a murderer too, he didn’t hate me, but he couldn’t stand me either, he was disgusted.

“Open the gates.” He ordered General Huzo beside him.

General Huzo opened the gates and my dad stepped into my cell, he seemed to be taking in my look.

“I heard your mom stopped by, did she do this?”

Silence.

“I didn’t come here to hurt you if that is what you are worried about, but I came to ask, why did you go into the forest?”

“I just wanted to know Dad, I just wanted to see the forest,” I explained.

“And did you have fun?”

“Dad.”

“Your sister, why did you take her with you?”

“I didn’t Dad, I told Piper to stay put that where I was going would be dangerous, I didn’t know that she was following me.”

“Jasmine.”

“Dad you have to believe, the rogue came out of nowhere and before I could react, she just.. she died.”

“Why weren’t you injured?”

“What?”

“There was a rogue behind you Jasmine, it had its heart removed from its body, did you do that?”

“Dad it was adrenaline.”

“You could protect yourself but not Piper? You know how hard it is for me to protect you right?”

“Dad! If I could! I WOULD GIVE MY LIFE FOR HER! BELIEVE ME, DAD, I didn’t kill her.” Sobbing I pleaded my innocence.

“You should not have come back Jasmine, you should have just died there. You are dead to me now.”

I wanted to hold him back, beg him to look into my eyes, not to leave me here, but a glance from General Huzo and I stayed back, General Huzo looked like he might kill me if I got closer to my own father.

“I didn’t do IT. I am your daughter too!” I yelled in anger. “I am your daughter too! Please, DAD.”
