When Ronghua was awake again, she opened her eyes and saw the same surroundings. The blanket underneath was made of the fox fur, and she was covered by a black fur coat. Now the outside was dark. The night fell, and the stars were sparkling in the sky. She had not thought that she would sleep for such a long time.
“Do you wake up?” someone asked.
Ronghua turned to look at where the voice came and saw a man who wore a black robe sitting at a place not far from her. He wore a mask, so she could not saw his face. However, she could feel his power from his manner.
“You are...” Even though he looked threatening, it seemed that he rescued her before she lost consciousness, “Did you save me?”
The man stopped cultivating and gazed at her. She might forget everything. “Are you...fine?” he looked hesitant as he asked. Was he worrying about something?
“Oh, um, I’m fine!” Ronghua replied out of courtesy.
“Well, may I ask who you are?” She did not think she knew him.
Ronghua would not trust someone quickly now. After all, she had few friends who were trustworthy in this world, not to speak of a man she met the first time. Harbor no ill intention against others, but never relax vigilance against evil-doers. She still had to be cautious though he saved her.
He rose to his feet, and Ronghua was sitting on the ground. When he stood up and looked down at her, Ronghua became nervous.
“My name is Jun Lang.”
He simply introduced himself, but Ronghua was still puzzled. She could swear that she had no memory of this man in front of her. However, she could discern that he did not intend to harm her.
“I...” she was about to introduce herself, but he interrupted, “I know your name!”
Ronghua became more surprised. He knew her name. Did this mean that he was from those places?
Was he from the netherworld or the Realm of Demons?
“Have I... ever met you?”
“I remember you! You said that I could come to you when I became strong!”
His words made Ronghua feel embarrassed to refute. She lowered her head and felt a little grieved for him since she always used similar words to deal with different sorts of people.
“Hua...Sheng!” he decided to call her full name after pondering because she did not like to be called so intimately by others.
However, Ronghua’s head was still lowered, and she did not have any other reaction. He thought Ronghua was still angry with him and was unwilling to reply, while the fact was that Ronghua had no idea who he was calling!
“Hua Sheng!” he accented his voice. Then Ronghua raised her head and found he was a little annoyed. Even the air around him seemed to flow blackly.
“Ah, are you calling me?” she asked uncertainly, which only resulted in his angrier query.
“Don’t tell me that even this name was a made-up one!” Both his hands curled into fists. The power inside his body was about to explode due to his losing control. Ronghua realized the situation was going bad.
“Wait, wait. Who are you?” Ronghua was so confused. This should be the first time that she met him!
She struggled to stand up, took a deep breath to call back her calmness and sense, and asked, “Did I know you?”
He was frozen for Ronghua’s confused face and then lowered his head to refuse to accept the meaning behind her words.
Ronghua took a step back, “Did I know you? Or I should ask, should I know you? I think we have just met for the first time, and you show unreasonable familiarity, which makes me feel that you have known me for a very long time. However, I’m sure that I have never seen you before. Do you mistake me for someone else?” It was not a big deal for mixing her up with someone else. Countless people were living in this world. It was not strange for two people to have a similar appearance!
He suppressed his fury and insisted stubbornly, “I do not recognize the wrong person, Hua Sheng. I won’t mistake others for you. You saved me and told me that there was warmth for me in this world, and I believed. You asked me to stay there and cultivated, and I obeyed. You asked me not to come to find you until I was strong enough, and I did. Now I’m powerful enough to protect myself, so I come for you, but why don’t you recognize me?”
Ronghua found it was a hot potato to her. “Who the hell made such appointments with him and cheated him for such a long time?” she complained in her heart. “Sir, do I truly know you? Besides, who is Hua Sheng? I have never heard her before, and that is not my name. You do mistake my identity.”
He still did not believe her and grabbed one of her hand, “Then how do you explain this bracelet on your wrist?”
Ronghua did not have any memory of the origin of this bracelet, “This one? I don’t know when I wore it. Anyway, it has been on my wrist. How did you know it?”
He became furious, “How could I don’t know it? I gave this to you. I said I could find you on account of this. I gave you this as a gift, with a piece of my divine sense attached inside. No one could wear it, except you. Hua Sheng, don’t disown me. I have been searching for you for a long time, a very, very long time. Don’t disown me. Please!”
Ronghua was quite helpless. She swore at the person who caused this in mind but forced a smile to him, “I really don’t know who put on this bracelet for me, while it had been with me since I could remember. I had never found any function of it and never made it a spiritual instrument, so...” she finished all these within a breath, and then she took another deep breath to continue, “White jade bracelets of this kind are always similar. I would not mind if you mistook it. I could give it to you if you really like it, but...”
“There’s no ‘but’.”
He still replied fiercely, “You promised that I could go to find you when I was strong. You promised that you would take me home. You swore that you would not look down upon me for the sake of my Physique of Myriad Toxins.”
The Physique of Myriad Toxins! Ronghua was astonished. How could a person with such physique appear at this place? It was very uncommon! Besides, he was so young. Should not the Physique of Myriad Toxins usually belong to those long-lived masters? Or might he be a descendant of such a master?
“What’s your name? Oh, right. Your name is Jun Lang. Perhaps I did forget about you. I have lost a part of my memories and failed to recall them until now. I’m so sorry about that. I did forget who you are.”
Jun Land lost his words.
Ronghua added, “But I promise that I will find my memories back.”
He finally calmed down, looked at Ronghua, and said firmly, “Hua Sheng, I believe you will recollect me. You said that you protected me when I was vulnerable, and I could protect you in return when you needed me. No matter how tough the trouble is, I can face it with you. Now my Physique of Myriad Toxins is completed, and nobody dares to take the frontal confrontation with me. I can shield you. Please trust me.”
Ronghua looked back with a sigh of relief, “How long have I lied to you that even made you believe me without a shadow of doubt and want to follow me?”
Jun Lang shook his head to deny, “No, you didn’t cheat me. You taught me. The Physique of Myriad Toxins could not only harm others but also be used for protection and good deeds. Look, this bracelet around my wrist was from you. You said that it would turn to white little by little if I kept doing good deeds. Look, it is all white now. I have never done the bad things because it would turn black if I did once, and then you would know it. Hence, I dared not, and I only did good things.”
Ronghua stared at that bracelet, ruminatively. It was a string of Illusory-Life Fantasy-Tear Beads. How was it possible that she handed this to an unknown man? Although he might be someone she knew in the past, it was still unreasonable because such treasure shouldn’t have existed.
The Illusory-Life Fantasy-Tear Bead, to illustrate it bluntly, was a bead to record one’s merits. It was useless for most of the circumstances, but it was the most effective way to examine one’s nature.
White revealed that its owner was virtuous, while black presented the evil deeds. Besides, it had another feature that it could absorb the merits of the passersby and transform them into cultivation. The evil-doers loved to use it to steal others’ merits for higher cultivation without any side effects. When these beads were initially refined, they were only for merit recording, a creation for convenience. However, then it was discovered that they had the capability of embezzling merits, resulting from the absence of one raw material, an Invariability Stone. In conclusion, this unique characteristic of the Illusory-Life Fantasy-Tear Bead might cause misfortune in the hands of villains.
If this string was handed out by herself, she could only hope that he had not absorbed the merits inside!
“Can I have a look?” Ronghua asked cautiously.
Jun Lang was happy to see that Ronghua began to treat him in a less vigilant but more familiar way and took off the bracelet straightway, “Here you are!”
At least Ronghua liked this trait of him, obedience! Following instructions!
Ronghua stroked the beads carefully and noticed that they were not very glossy due to the lack of Invariability Stones, but they were not like one of the firstlings refined as well.
Jun Lang was aware of the slight change of Ronghua’s expression, so he asked worriedly, “Hua Sheng, do the beads have any problem? Are you suspecting that they are fake ones? I can guarantee that this string is not. You refined it for me by yourself, so I would never lose it, and I always took it with me. I never took it off for once!”
Ronghua just responded plainly to his nervous face, “I didn’t say it was fake. Keep it!”
Her fingers moved imperceptibly. Jun Lang took back the bracelet cheerfully and wore it back to the wrist.
Then Ronghua turned to look around, “Where are the two men who brought me here?”
When it came to those two men, Jun Lang’s fury came back. He answered in an angry tone, “I crippled them and threw them down for the harm they did to you.”
Ronghua looked at the bottom of the cliff. There was hostility seething with intense Yin qi. It seemed that these men had killed many people. Consequently, the Yin qi gathered below was massive, which could even rob all the vital forces of the monsters who came close to this forest.
Ronghua walked over to have a vertical view. The chance of surviving from this bottomless chasm was nearly inexistent.
Did Jun Lang always behave in such a cruel way?
Perhaps he was influenced by the Physique of Myriad Toxins!
“That so-called Fire God sucked up my fire of nothingness, so he wouldn’t live long even if you did not kill him,” Ronghua turn to explain to him, “That fire is from hell, which is not possible to be controlled by a human.”
“I know. You saved me with it!” Ronghua was surprised by this answer. Had she ever used this fire in front of him?
She waved her hand to drive these useless questions away and then checked the condition of spiritual power in her body. The situation was not well. She might not be able to defeat that geezer if he was resurgent. However, the remaining power was enough to summon Prince Ba Luo to be a quilt.
Prince Ba Luo was frisking around after he came out, but then he became depressed when he found he was on a cliff, and it was already midnight. He was more disappointed when he knew why Ronghua summoned him.
“You did not let me out for a very long time. And now you just called me out to be your quilt?”
Though he was complaining, he still lay down. Ronghua sat down and leaned on his body. He used his swings to block the night wind for her.
Jun Lang also sat to repose. Yet Ronghua did not fall asleep. She wouldn’t close her eyes at night because she was afraid that she could never open them after that.
