He turned to leave, a slight wince on his face as he walked. "Wait," I called out, a wave of guilt washing over me. "Let me go back and get you some ice for that."

"No, miss, it's really not necessary," he insisted, though his hand remained on his now-swollen nose.

"Please," I said, my voice filled with genuine remorse. "I feel terrible about this. It's the least I can do."
