The morning sun spilled through the hospital blinds, soft and warm against my face. I blinked, slowly adjusting to the light, only to see Nathan sitting beside me, his eyes fixed on a file in his hands. He looked tired, faint dark circles shadowed his eyes but the moment he noticed I was awake, his expression softened into a smile.

“Good morning,” he said gently.
