Adina and I hurried down the hospital corridor, the scent of antiseptic thick in the air. When we entered the boy’s room, the first thing I noticed was the sound, the shallow, uneven rasp of his breathing. His tiny chest struggled to rise and fall, each breath a battle he was losing.

My wolf tensed instantly. Adina rushed to his bedside. “He’s not breathing properly, why isn’t he breathing properly?” Her voice trembled, thick with fear.
