The moment the door closed behind us, I motioned for Quinn or Karina, as Adina still thought of her to sit. She hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting around my office as if she feared even the walls might betray her. The dim light from the lamp cast long shadows across her face, and I could see the exhaustion written in the lines beneath her eyes. She looked like someone who had lived too many years in fear.
