Chapter 2

Mabel's pov.

As I sat in that car tears rolled down my cheeks nonstop as I wondered how I became an orphan in just a few minutes and what awaited me in a few minutes. Time really is fascinating.

I cried so bad, bawling my eyes out. I didn't cry this hard just because I lost my parents but I cried because I blamed myself for their deaths. My unluckiness had rubbed off on them.

We finally entered the pack, I recognised the atmosphere even though I had never been in a pack before. The pack was a little distant from human dwelling.

Wait!

I wasn't crying anymore. The agonizing pain piercing me, wanting to burst free was still intact but at the same time, it felt like my emotions were on a leash. These feelings, they were unfamiliar.

I guess I suddenly realized that I was all alone and I needed to be strong for myself at least grant the dying request of my parents.

"Mabel live."

As the dying words of my parents rang in my head, I quickly wiped off my tears and got ready to face whatever was coming head-on. "I Am My Father's Daughter. "

As I thought this, the car stopped in front of a luxury-looking mansion " Get down "The man said.

"Sir!"

Are you deaf, I said get down"My breath stopped as he yelled at me, I quickly opened the door and got down.

My hairs stood cold as I stared at the mansion in front of me. I would have admired how exquisite and luxurious it was, but I was too down thinking about my loss.

"At least your brain works even though your ears don't!" The gamma exclaimed.

This angry old man was the least of my problems right now. I felt so weak, having no will to live but the words of my parent and the longing of my heart to atone for my sins kept me going.

" Why didn't he kill me? he should have! "

That would have been the question, but right now I am grateful I got this second chance, because he will pay.

"Come with me," came the voice of the same gamma that brought me here, His voice was strangely calm this time.

Weird! he is harsh a second and calm the next. what was he planning?

I thought to run off, but one look at the guards around the huge premises and I swallowed that thought. This was it, it was my end.

"Dad help me" I mumbled to myself in fear.

The gamma didn’t take me inside the mansion.

Instead, he took a rather unsettling path.

“This way.” He said.

I thought he was leading me to a separate room—if such kindness even existed here—but the further we went, the colder it became. My bare feet slapped against damp stone. The air grew heavy with the stench of rot and something metallic. Blood.

We stopped before a heavy iron door. Without a word, he shoved it open and the darkness inside swallowed the light.

“Get in,” he ordered.

“Sir, please—”

The rest of my plea was cut off as he pushed me hard enough that I stumbled forward and hit the ground. The door slammed shut behind me with a thud that echoed through the pitch-black room.

At first, I just sat there, my palms pressed to the cold stone floor, trying to make sense of the choking darkness. My heart was still racing from the journey here, from the loss of my parents, from everything. But now… now I could hear nothing but my own shallowness breaths and the drip-drip-drip of water somewhere deep inside the walls.

Hours passed. I called out a few times, hoping someone would answer. No one did.

The first day, I waited for food. Maybe even water. Nothing came.

The second day, my throat burned so badly I could barely swallow. My lips cracked, my head throbbed, and my stomach gnawed at itself. I tried licking the damp wall for moisture, but it only made me cough from the moldy taste.

The third day, I stopped counting the drips. My thoughts blurred together—my parents’ faces, the sound of their dying words, Mabel, live. But what was the point of living if this was it?

By the fourth day, I was too weak to cry. My body ached in ways I didn’t think were possible. Every breath felt like dragging a stone uphill. I curled into a ball in the corner, shivering even though the air was stale and warm.

I don’t know how much longer I stayed like that before the sound of keys jingling woke me. The door creaked open, light stabbing my eyes so sharply I hissed.

“Up,” a voice barked.

I tried, but my legs wouldn’t work. Rough hands grabbed me, dragging me out across the stones. My knees scraped raw, but I didn’t have the strength to protest.

The brightness outside the dungeon felt like knives in my eyes after so much darkness. My head lolled to one side, and I caught glimpses of the place—guards, torches, stone walls that seemed older than the earth.

We didn’t stop until we reached a wide courtyard. That’s when I saw him.

The man from my nightmares. The one who killed my parents. Alpha Lynx.

His eyes found mine, and he smiled—a slow, wicked curve of his lips.

“Bring her,” he commanded.

And that was how they dragged me, weak and half-dead, into the ceremony. I tried to understand what was happening, my eyes barely open and my hearing hazy,

“Here she is.” I gathered, “ strip her.”

Immediately, they grabbed my clothes and tore them apart. I tried struggling but my bones barely felt alive , I scrambled to cover my body and just then a strong calloused palm stroke my cheek and this was it. The long awaited death.

“I never thought my poor lonely life would end” were my last thought and then blackout

Constant wailing, they all said something…

!!!A slave to slave!!!

!!!Lives to slave !!!

!!!Until death persuades!!!

I opened my eyes, and my leg felt sore. I hung up, over a well of boiling lava.

My whole body soaked wet, I turned to see the crowd which was addressed by the scary man who killed my parents.

He said this was a welcome ceremony for a slave to slaves but then at the end of that statement he added " But this one is mine to handle." He let out with a smirk as he stared at me deviously.

"You might all want to hear about her crime." He asked.

"Yes! Yes!" the crowd echoed

Her parents are killers, they harmed my family and she is here to pay for their sin. The roasting of the girl will proceed now.

"Please!!!", I begged for mercy as they lowered me closer to the lava pool, the heat on my skin felt like it was being peeled off but then they suddenly stopped.

I wasn't put into the lava pool but was left to hang right above the lava where the heat was more intense than the first.

My wish since I could ever remember was to be able to live a stable life and not move very few months but now I didn’t know what my wish was any longer, all I knew was if survive this he was going to pay.

Screw stability, my teary glare tightened as I stared at that monster of a man.

My eyes poured out non stop, until they finally took me away from the pool and loosened the ropes on me. I couldn't feel any thing, I struggled to stand.

"Now to the engraving of the mark. "I heard the man say.

Fear gripped me on hearing what he said, not knowing what they would do to me this time I tried running.

But before I could take two steps the guards had gripped me and dragged me to where he was.

He took a dagger and brought it close to my arm. Fear overwhelming, I glued my eyes shut, doing nothing but prayed that someone or some deity would just save me from this.

In all my shaking the guards held me tightly keeping me stable, and then he pierced the blade into me, my skin tearing apart and he engraved the letter L.

The sting and pain were endless. I cried and cried for help or mercy if I had done anything in my last life.

The young man brought his head down to me and said

"I am Alpha Lynx and your misery just began." with a smirk.

Just after this, the guards dragged me back to the dungeon I came from. My whole arm had been covered with blood when suddenly a maid came in.

She came towards me with a first aid box, cleaned the wound up and tended to it.

I felt better, I wiped my tears when I heard her say "I feel bad for you, being entangled with alpha lynx is worse than hell itself."

After saying this she stared at me and talked about giving me the only advice that would save me a little, I guess she pitied me.

"Do not lose your wolf, no matter what," she whispered.

"what happens when you lose your wolf" Out of fear this question fell out.

"That would be a tragedy," she said as she quickly left the room.

When she said this I just stared, at this point I was so tired my eyes were already dried out. I had accepted my fate and now it was a struggle for survival.

"The alpha must never find out"I mumbled.

I felt sleepy so I thought of laying down when I heard a whistle and then the door opened.

My heart skipped, what could be the problem this time? I panicked, folding myself

"The alpha asks that you report to him every first thing in the morning and every night. And know this never be late !”

She ended and left immediately.

Then a guard came in with a bowl and dropped it in front, “ Your food.” He said.

I grabbed the food immediately and devoured it, it was bare rice intact it tasted like spoilt one but I didn’t care I was starving.

After the meal it was time to rest, I layer down and my consciousness slowly drifted away.

Hours later, the iron door opened with a glang sound.

I was asked to step out, “You are to report to the alpha, immediately.” The guards pushed me out and dispersed.

My sore arm stung sharply, it felt all the pain I was meant to feel yesterday were passed on to today.

Standing outside those walls and the bright light shining on my face felt uneasy. Then the warning of the maid from yesterday rang ”Never be late”

I needed directions, “ Sorry, pls do you know the way to the alpha?” I asked a maid.

“Down the hall”

She replied and left, few moments of heavy steps I finally reached the door, his door.

Terror drew me in, But I mustered up the courage and headed to the room. After all what more could he do.

"Slave girl."

My breath seized as I heard this, "Yes! I was told you called for me "I said stammering.

"You heard I called you? Weren't you supposed to report to me yourself early the morning"

Yes sir, I...

"Keep quiet !!! I'm not done talking. "

He shouted, and my heart sank. As he stood up heading towards me I went on my knees, I didn't know what else to do.

He bent downward, raising my chin with his fingers. "You disgust me," he said as he spat on me.

"I'm sorry sir, I promise not do it again. "

He didn't say anything, he just walked towards his window, I continued begging not knowing what he would do to me.

"Slave girl, what nice weather it is, isn't it?"

Sir? I was confused by his question.

"Isn't it ?" He repeated with a stone that went past the side of my face, it was so fast and close that it slit my face slightly and stuck on the wall behind me.

I felt scared as tears dropped from my eyes.

"Alpha Lynx I won't do this again please have mercy on me …"

"Slave girl, don't you think the rain would be lonely?"

"The rain?"I asked, baffled.

"Go outside and keep the rain company."
