Chapter 290 A Generous Customer

Later, Su Tong smiled at the old woman and said, "I see. Thank you."

Afterwards, he ran away.

The old woman looked at his receding figure confusedly.

Meanwhile, some buyers were asking Zheng Qiu about the potato price, which pushed him to turn to where Su Tong went away before.

Thankfully, he saw Su Tong who was running back. Su Tong whispered to him, "Brother Zheng, I figured it out. 2 coins for 500 grams."

Hearing the number, Zheng Qiu nodded to him and replied to the old woman who inquired, "3 coins for 1 kilogram."

"3 coins for 1 kilogram?" The old woman thought she misheard him. She had bought potatoes before but those were never this cheap and big.

"Brother Zheng," Su Tong shouted after Zheng Qiu replied. He also thought he misheard Zheng Qiu.

But Zhao Po winked at Su Tong who later stepped back to not meddle in.

Zheng Qiu smiled at the old woman and said, "Do you want some? Look at these big potatoes. They're tasty, too. The more you buy, the more discounts I will give you."

"The more discounts? Can you explain it more specifically?" The old woman looked at Zheng Qiu and asked.

Zheng Qiu thought for a while and explained, "For example, if you buy 5 kilograms, I'll only charge you 13 coins."

"13 coins. So I can save 2 more coins. Great. Well, I want 5 kilograms," the old woman calculated the price difference and found that Zheng Qiu's potatoes were much cheaper than those she had bought before.

So, Zheng Qiu's fellows standing aside started to package potatoes and put them on a scale. The steelyard tilted high, which meant the potatoes on the scale were heavier than 5 kilograms.

Then, Zheng Qiu said to the old woman with a smile, "You're our first customer today so we'd like to send some to you for free. Please help advertise our goods."

"Okay. No problem. I surely will do," the old woman was so happy that she smiled from ear to ear.

Early in the morning, the luck came to her.

After weighing potatoes, Zheng Qiu helped put them in the old woman's basket that soon was filled.

The old woman paid and left.

Zheng Qiu handed coins to Zhao Po and said, "Brother Zhao, I'd like you to collect coins and keep accounts."

"Don't worry. Just leave it to me," Zhao Po said after nodding.

Then Su Tong dragged Zheng Qiu away and asked him in a low voice, "Brother Zheng, why do you set such a low price? In this way, we earn 7 fewer coins than we should."

"Brother Su, no need to worry. We have many potatoes in stock. If we sell these potatoes at a market price, namely 2 coins for 500 grams, we won't attract too many customers. Then when do you think we can sell all these out? Villagers in Jiandu are in urgent need of the money we trade potatoes for to pull through the winter," Zheng Qiu explained while patting Su Tong on his shoulder.

Then, he added, "In doing so, customers will know we have cheap potatoes. I believe many will come to buy our potatoes soon."

"How smart you are. I really learned a lot from you," Su Tong cupped his hands and said to Zheng Qiu. He didn't know Zheng Qiu had given such careful consideration.

Later, Zheng Qiu said, "Let's hurry to unload potatoes."

"Okay," Su Tong responded. They two carried one more package of potatoes down from the carriage.

In the meantime, the old woman who had bought potatoes just now was heading home in delight. Someone saw her and asked, "Hey, Granny Wu, have you made a fortune? Why do you buy so many potatoes?"

"No, it's just because these potatoes are cheap. These only cost me 13 coins," Granny Wu explained with a smile.

That person looked at Granny Wu incredibly and continued, "What? Just 13 coins for so many potatoes?"

"True. I only spent 13 coins," Granny Wu nodded and confirmed.

Making sure that Granny Wu was serious, that person asked again, "So where did you buy these? Does the vendor have more?"

"Yes, there're plenty of potatoes. The stall is right near the market entrance. Walk in and you will find it. Vendors are some handsome men," Granny Wu further explained.

Hearing it, that person quickly said, "It's so cheap. I gotta go home to grab coins to buy some back."

"Alright. I won't hold you here," Granny Wu waved her hand to that person.

Then, that person ran back home fast to grab some coins.

People around all heard what Granny Wu and that person talked.

A basket of potatoes should only cost 13 coins, way cheaper than usual.

Besides, boiled potatoes tasted good and just a few could fill people up.

Given the current high rice price, they'd rather buy potatoes to see the winter out than spend much on rice. Moreover, potatoes were easy to stock.

Thinking of that, all headed to the market.

Soon, Zheng Qiu's stall was surrounded by people.

Zheng Qiu's plan worked well. Customers all bought 5 kilograms at one time.

They bustled about at once.

Before noon, half of the potatoes were sold.

At this time, Xiao Mu and his fellows were walking out of the Tongfu Inn to look for anything they could eat in winter.

On the street, Xiao Mu and his fellows saw people walking and talking happily while holding a basket of potatoes.

Seeing that, Xiao Mu got an idea soon. Now that they were short of grains, they could buy some vegetables like potatoes to fill themselves up.

Thinking of that, Xiao Mu couldn't help but smile and kept walking forward to stop an old man. He asked, "Excuse me. Can I ask where you bought these potatoes?"

"Oh, potatoes? I bought them in the market ahead. They're really cheap," the old man said to Xiao Mu with a smile.

Hearing that, Xiao Mu slightly nodded and said again, "Thank you."

Later, Xiao Mu led his men to where the old man pointed at.

Not even arriving at the market entrance, they already saw many people holding baskets walking in and many carrying potatoes out.

Xiao Mu frowned and followed the crowd to walk in.

At this time, Xiao Mu squeezed in and asked, "How much is it?"

"Sir, the more you buy, the more discounts you can get. 13 coins for 5 kilograms," Su Tong answered Xiao Mu.

Xiao Mu nodded and asked soon, "How many do you have?"

"How many do you want? We still have many in stock," Su Tong smiled at Xiao Mu and replied.

Then Xiao Mu continued, "I want all you have."

"What? All?" Su Tong looked at Xiao Mu and asked him incredibly after hearing that. He thought he misheard it because there were still several carriages of potatoes unloaded.

They had at least over 500 kilograms left.

But Xiao Mu nodded again and said, "Yes, I want all."

"Um... Sir, please wait a minute. I'll be back soon," Su Tong quickly looked back after answering Xiao Mu.

Then he walked to Zhao Po who was collecting coins and asked, "Where is Brother Zheng?"

"He's carrying potatoes down in the back. What's wrong?" Zhao Po asked.

Su Tong smiled and said, "We have a generous buyer."

While speaking, Su Tong moved to carriages parked behind.

Hearing that, Zhao Po knitted his brows and wondered about the generous customer.

When lost in his thought, he welcomed a new customer. The customer asked, "I want 10 kilograms. How much?"

"Oh, I'll give you more discounts. It's 25 coins in total," Zhao Po answered.

The customer was so happy and said, "That's good. I want 10 kilograms."

He took out 25 coins and handed them to Zhao Po while speaking.

Taking coins over, Zhao Po said to the man who was responsible for weighing potatoes, "Give him 10 kilograms."

"No problem!"

Behind a carriage, Zheng Qiu was busy with unloading potatoes and he saw Su Tong running to him. The latter said with joy, "Brother Zheng, we have a generous customer."

"A generous customer? What do you mean?" Zheng Qiu frowned, looked at Su Tong, and asked.

Su Tong took some time to calm down and explained, "A customer wants all potatoes we have. So can he be regarded as a generous customer?"

"What? All? Where is he?" Zheng Qiu kept asking with his brows knitted.

If Su Tong didn't lie, they could sell potatoes out soon and save much time.

Su Tong dragged Zheng Qiu and said, "This way. He's right in front of our stall."

Su Tong pointed at Xiao Mu who squatted down and introduced, "It's him."

Zheng Qiu nodded at Su Tong and moved forward. He asked, "Sir, I've heard that you want all potatoes we have, right?"

"Yes. It's you..." Xiao Mu looked up to respond. But when seeing Zheng Qiu who stood in front of him, he was so surprised.

So was Zheng Qiu. He asked, "Brother Xiao, why are you in Suizhou?"

"It's a long story," Xiao Mu answered, shaking his head.

Zheng Qiu nodded and posed another question, "Brother Xiao, why do you want so many potatoes?"

"Can I borrow you for a while?" Xiao Mu looked around and then dragged Zheng Qiu to where carriages were parked.

Having witnessed how Xiao Mu and Zheng Qiu talked, Su Tong realized that they were acquaintances.

After they hid behind carriages, Xiao Mu didn't speak until he looked around, "Honestly speaking, the flood hit Jiandu this year so that border soldiers are short of grains now. However, the Xiling army is launching an attack. Thus, I want these potatoes to feed my soldiers."

"I see. What about His Majesty? Has he come up with any solutions?" Zheng Qiu nodded and asked.

Hearing that, Xiao Mu snorted, "If he had, we would not be here now."

Zheng Qiu nodded and didn't ask more questions. Without Marquis Shuo and Infanta Qingcheng's help to fight against the flood in Jiandu, they might suffer more now.

Zheng Qiu promised, "Brother Xiao, don't worry. I will save all the potatoes for border soldiers."

"Thank you," Xiao Mu nodded and replied.
