A Promise and a Bullet

At the hospital, Eric stood outside Liana’s room as the doctors examined her. A group of five bodyguards came to him. Without saying a word, Eric gave them a small nod. He had a feeling something might go wrong and was prepared. Two of the guards quietly took their spots outside Liana’s door.

Inside the same hospital, Daniel had come in for his own checkup. When he saw Eric standing there with bodyguards, his heart sank. He quickly stepped behind a wall to stay hidden and listened carefully.

A few minutes passed, and then a doctor came out of the room.

"Your wife has caught a strong cold," he said. "And her hands are quite

badly burned."

Eric stayed calm and said, “She had a small accident at home.”

The doctor nodded. "She still needs a few tests. Once they’re done, she can go home.”

Daniel squeezed his fists, furious after hearing that "They tried to burn my sister… these people are inhuman! I won’t let her suffer alone in that house"

Without thinking, he rushed toward Eric and shouted,

"What did you do to my sister? You monster! I won’t let you get awaywith this!"

Before he could reach Eric, the bodyguards stepped in and grabbed him tightly.

Eric, now burning with anger , walked over and punched Daniel hard in the face. Blood ran down Daniel’s nose. The guards dragged him outside and beat him badly near the road, then quietly returned to their positions like nothing had happened.

Eric went into Liana’s room. She was still unconscious, her face pale, bandages on her hands. He stood there for a while, looking at her silently.

"She didn’t deserve this," he thought. "Her father is the one who destroyed my family, but she’s the one paying the price."

A few minutes later, Liana’s eyes fluttered open.

She glanced around “E-Eric… where am I? What happened to me?”

Eric kept his voice soft and controlled, "Tell me, who did this to you? How did you end up in the garden?"

Liana stared at him with hurt in her eyes. "You really don’t know?" she said bitterly.

"You and your family did this. You’ve always treated me like this. And no matter what, I’ll never forgive any of you."

Eric didn’t say anything. He looked down, quietly taking in her words.

Then he stood up ,"Don’t tell anyone what happened with you in the mansion. Keep it to yourself. I’m leaving for now. I’ll be back in the morning. If you need anything, the guards are outside." He turned and walked out.

Liana didn’t say another word. She turned her face away from him, tears building in her eyes.

The next morning,

the guards posted outside Liana’s room stepped away for a short break. It was the perfect opportunity for Daniel to see his sister. Without wasting time, he entered the room.

He rushed to her side, "Liana… how are you? What have they done to you?" Tears welled up in his eyes.

Liana’s eyes slowly opened, her voice soft in disbelief, "Daniel? You're here? How did you get in?"

They hugged tightly, both crying . Daniel pulled back and wiped his face. "Listen to me, I have a plan. Eric and the guards are gone, we can leave, right now." He helped her sit up, but Liana resisted.

"No, I can’t," she said, shaking her head. "Even if I wanted to. I promised Eric I wouldn’t run away."

Daniel tried to reassure her, "You’ll be safe. I’ll take you somewhere he’ll never find you. Please trust me."

Liana replied "If I leave, he’ll come after you. Or worse, someone in our family. He always does what he says. They heard the doctor’s voice approaching. Liana quickly told Daniel to go, and he left silently.

Shortly after, Eric arrived, dressed sharply in a black suit. He stepped inside "Liana, how are you now? I spoke with the doctor. You’ll need to stay here for one more day."

Liana, clearly uncomfortable, replied, "I’m feeling better. Can we please

just go home today?"

Right then, the guards entered the room.

"Sir..." one of them said.

Eric turned to them angrily. "Where were you when I got here? All of you ,outside, Now."

He took them out into the corridor and snapped, "Why did I assign you here? And how could you walk away from your duty like that?"

One of the guards apologized, "We’re sorry, sir. It won’t happen again."

Meanwhile, Daniel returned—this time in disguise, wearing a doctor’s coat and a mask. He looked so convincing, even Liana didn’t recognize him.

He used a chemical solution to knock her out gently, placed her in a wheelchair, and rolled her out through the back exit of the hospital.

Moments later, Eric returned to Liana’s room and met the doctor.

"Can we leave now? My wife wants to go home."

The doctor nodded. "As long as she’s cared for properly, yes, she can be

discharged." Eric walked to the room to bring her—but found it empty.

"Where did she go? Guards! Find her! Don’t come back until you do!"

A few minutes later, one of the guards returned. "Sir, we checked the footage. She left with her brother."

Eric’s face turned cold. He reached behind, pulled out his gun, and loaded it. "Find their location. Now."

Without waiting, he rushed out of the hospital.

Elsewhere, one of the guards secretly called Richard. " Eric sir just left the hospital."

Richard chuckled coldly. "Do what I told you. No one should find out."He ended the call.

Inside the car, Daniel called home. "Dad, I’ll explain later—just get everyone and leave the house right now. Eric could be on his way. Please move quickly!"

Martin’s voice came through, worried. "Is Liana with you?"

"Yes, she’s with me. But you have to leave that area immediately," Daniel

insisted.

In the back seat, Liana woke up slowly, still groggy. "Where are we? What did you do, Daniel? Eric is going to kill us—none of us are safe now!" She started crying.

Daniel kept his eyes on the road, trying to stay calm.

"Nothing will happen. I’m here. I won’t let anything happen to you."

The car stopped at a petrol station. "I’ll just get the tank filled. I’ll be right back," he said, stepping out. He accidentally left his phone behind.

Liana quickly picked it up and hid it in her lap. "Daniel, I need to use the restroom. I’ll be back in a few minutes," she said, getting out of the car.

Out of sight, she dialed Eric. He was driving fast, furious. When the phone rang, he answered sharply.

"Eric… it’s me. Liana."

Eric slammed the brakes, his voice rising. "You had the guts to run from me? I’m not letting you get away with this!"

Liana spoke quickly, her voice trembling. "I called to give you my location—but you have to promise you won’t hurt Daniel. He had nothing to do with it."

Eric’s voice lowered but stayed firm. "Send me your location. Within two minutes."

He ended the call.

Liana returned to the car and calmly said, "I’m feeling hungry. There’s a store nearby—can you get me something to eat?"

Daniel stepped out again. Moments later, they both looked up—and saw Eric standing in front of them.

Daniel stared at Liana in shock ,"What have you done? I trusted you..."

Liana, panicked, said, "I only asked him to spare you. I’m going to him

now. Please, you need to drive away—now!"

Before Daniel could react, Liana walked up to Eric.

"I’m here. Don’t touch my brother. Put your gun away."

Eric’s eyes burned with rage, "Get in the car. Don’t come out again."

Liana quickly obeyed, sat down, and began crying.

Daniel stood silently, staring at Eric as he approached.

Eric warned coldly, "I’m letting you go this once. But if you ever pull something like this again, I’ll kill you myself."

Suddenly—a gunshot echoed.

BANG!

A bullet hit Daniel right in the chest. He stumbled back, collapsing to the ground.

Eric froze, his eyes wide. He quickly pulled out his gun and scanned the area—but no one was there.

Hearing the gunshot, Liana rushed out, heart pounding. She saw Daniel on the ground, bleeding, and Eric standing nearby with his gun drawn.

She ran to her brother, crying. "Daniel! What happened?! What did you do, Eric?! You promised me!" She grabbed his collar, shaking him.

Eric looked stunned. "I didn’t shoot him! It came from somewhere else!"

Liana’s hands were soaked in blood as she tried to stop the bleeding.

"Somebody help us! Call an ambulance!" she screamed.

Eric lifted Daniel and put him in the car, speeding off toward the hospital.

Back at the mansion,

Richard got a phone call. "Sir, it’s done. Daniel’s been shot. Everyone will believe Eric did it."

Richard leaned back, smiling darkly. His eyes were full of revenge, and his hatred for Eric had never been clearer.
