I paced my chamber, my boots hitting the stone floor in steady rhythm. The fire in the hearth burned but gave me no warmth. My mind refused to rest.

Ryder sat across from me, his chest bare, his skin bruised though it was already healing. He pressed his hand against his ribs, his eyes dark and restless.

“She shifted,” I muttered, more to myself than to him. “But not fully. She is half shifted which means she has no control of it yet.”
