Leone stepped back. His expression shifted from shock to disbelief.

And something else I could not identify.

He stared at me for a long moment. Then he released my arm.

"Go."

I did not wait for him to change his mind. I pushed past him and ran down the corridor away from him and his threats and his cruelty.

My breath came in gasps. My chest hurt. But I kept moving until I reached my room.

I slammed the door shut and leaned against it. Safe. Finally safe.
