Emma’s POV
I woke up to an unusual silence.
I tried opening my eyes, blinking rapidly as sunlight was peeking into the room from behind the curtains, I stretched my hand across the bed, expecting to feel Jeff’s body beside me, but the space was empty.
I sat up rubbing the sleep from my eyes, listening for any sounds from downstairs but the house was quiet, too quiet. That alone made my heart race.
Slipping out of bed, I grabbed my robe and walked toward the hallway, "Jeff?"
My voice called out in the silence, but there was no response.
I checked the twins' rooms first, but their beds were made, untouched since the morning, that only deepened my confusion. Where had they all gone without telling me?
I rushed back to the bedroom, grabbed my phone and immediately dialed Jeff’s number, it rang a few times before he finally picked up.
"Hey sweetheart." His voice was calm and steady, that was a good sign.
"Jeff where are you? Where are the twins?" I asked, the concern in my voice was very obvious.
"We’re out running some errands," he replied, "Don’t worry, we’ll be back soon."
I frowned, "Why didn’t you wake me up before leaving?"
"You looked so peaceful," he said, "I didn’t want to disturb you. Just relax okay? We’re fine."
Something about the way he said it made me uneasy, but I chose to believe him. Jeff wouldn’t lie to me, not after everything we had been through.
"Alright." I murmured, "Just be safe okay?"
"Always." He promised before hanging up.
I exhaled and placed the phone on the nightstand.
Even though Jeff reassured me, I still couldn’t shake the odd feeling in my chest, but I tried to push it aside.
To keep myself from getting worried and growing anxious, I busied myself with house chores. I cleaned the kitchen, arranged the living room and even reorganized the books in the study.
Anything to keep my hands moving.
By the time I was done, the sun had started to set.
I glanced at the clock, it was already past six in the evening and I still hadn’t heard from Jeff.
I grabbed my phone again, ready to call him, when I suddenly heard the front door open. My head snapped toward the entrance and I let out a breath of relief.
"Mom." Jason and Anna ran toward me, grinning from ear to ear.
I crouched down to their level, hugging them tightly, "Where have you two been? And where’s your father?"
Jason giggled, "Daddy said he’s waiting for you downstairs."
I pulled back slightly, "Downstairs?" I asked, confused.
Anna nodded eagerly, "Come on Mommy, he said you have to go see him.”
My confusion deepened but I stood up and grabbed my coat. The twins practically dragged me to the elevator, excitement buzzing around them.
When we reached the ground floor, I stepped out, expecting to see Jeff but he wasn’t there.
Instead the only thing I could see was a sleek black car parked just outside the lobby. The driver stepped out, bowed slightly and opened the back door for me.
Inside was a single envelope with my name on it. My pulse quickened as I picked it up and unfolded the note.
Emma,
I have a surprise for you. Get in the car.
Jeff
I glanced back at the twins but they only grinned at me mischievously.
"Mommy go." Jason urged.
"Yeah, Daddy said you have to listen." Anna added.
With no other choice, I slid into the car. The driver closed the door and started the engine.
The car ride was filled with curiosity and anticipation, I kept trying to figure out what Jeff was up to but no one was willing to give me any answers.
The first stop was a high-end boutique.
Several stylists greeted me warmly, already prepared for my arrival. Before I could even ask what was going on, they took me into the dressing room.
"What’s all this for?" I asked as they measured me and pulled out elegant dresses.
"You’ll see." One of them said with a smile.
I had no choice but to let them do their work. After several outfit changes, they finally settled on a stunning floor-length gown, it hugged my figure perfectly, flowing effortlessly as I moved.
Next came the jewelry, delicate diamonds that sparkled under the lights. Then the beauty salon, where they worked on my hair and makeup with expert precision.
By the time they were done, I barely recognized myself in the mirror. The entire process had taken over three hours, and I still had no idea what was happening.
"Am I allowed to know what’s going on now?" I asked, crossing my arms.
One of the stylists chuckled, "Not yet but you’ll love it."
Another car arrived shortly after and I was ushered inside. My heart pounded as we drove through the city, finally stopping in front of a breathtaking venue.
The grand hall was beautifully decorated by the soft glow of candles, music played in the background and at the center of it all stood Jeff.
He was dressed in an impeccable suit, looking more handsome than ever but what really caught my attention was the look in his eyes, full of love, determination and something else.
Anticipation.
"Jeff." I whispered, stepping closer.
As I reached him, he took my hands in his, his grip warm and reassuring.
"Emma," he started, his voice heavy with emotion, "We’ve been through so much together, more than I ever thought possible."
I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his words.
"I haven’t always been the best man for you," he admitted, "I made mistakes, so many of them, I hurt you when I should have protected you. I let my fears and past cloud what we had and for that, I’m sorry."
Tears burned my eyes but I stayed silent, letting him continue.
"But you, you never gave up on me," he said softly, "Even when I didn’t deserve it, you fought for us, for this family and I realized something, I don’t want to waste another second not showing you how much you mean to me."
He let go of one of my hands and reached into his pocket.
My breath hitched as he lowered himself onto one knee and pulled out a ring.
"Emma," he said, looking up at me with so much love it was almost overwhelming, "Will you marry me again?"
A gasp escaped my lips, my hands flying to my mouth.
I looked around, realizing we weren’t alone.
Jason and Anna stood to the side, their little faces lit up with excitement.
"Say yes Mommy." Anna cheered.
"Yeah, say yes." Jason echoed.
Tears slipped down my cheeks as I looked back at Jeff. My heart was pounding, emotions crashing over me like waves.
"Yes." I whispered at first.
Then louder, "Yes!"
A huge smile broke across Jeff’s face as he slipped the ring onto my finger before standing up and pulling me into his arms. The room erupted into applause but all I could focus on was him.
We kissed, sealing the moment and when we pulled away, Jeff leaned close, his lips brushing against my ear.
"One more thing," He murmured.
I pulled back slightly, "What's that?"
He smirked, "We have two weeks to plan the wedding."
My eyes widened, "Two weeks?!"
Jason and Anna giggled as Jeff simply nodded, looking far too amused.
"Better get ready, Mrs. Anderson," he teased, "We have a wedding to plan."
I let out a breathless laugh, still overwhelmed but undeniably happy.
Because no matter what happened next, I knew one thing for certain.
This time, we were in it together.
WEDDING DAY
I stood in front of the full-length mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at me.
The white lace gown fit perfectly, hugging my curves in all the right places before flowing gracefully to the floor. My hair was styled in soft waves, a delicate veil pinned in place. The makeup was subtle yet elegant, highlighting my features without overwhelming them.
I should have been nervous, but I wasn’t.
Not this time.
Because this time, I was walking down the aisle out of love.
Not obligation.
Not duty.
Not because of an arranged contract.
But because I loved Jeff.
And he loved me.
A soft knock pulled me from my thoughts, and before I could even respond, the door creaked open, revealing Anna and Jason dressed in matching outfits, Jason in a little suit and Anna in a gorgeous flower girl dress.
“Mommy, are you ready?” Anna beamed, her excitement barely contained.
Jason, ever the responsible brother, adjusted the tiny bow tie around his neck before nodding, “You look really pretty Mom.”
I smiled, kneeling down to their level as I cupped their faces, “You both look beautiful too.”
Anna giggled, “We know.”
Jason sighed dramatically, “She’s been saying that all morning.”
I chuckled, pressing a kiss to each of their foreheads before taking a deep breath, “Are you two ready?”
Jason nodded eagerly, “We’ve practiced a lot.”
“Yeah, we won’t mess up.” Anna added, clutching my hand.
My heart swelled.
Instead of choosing my father to walk me down the aisle, I had chosen them. My children. The greatest gifts Jeff and I had ever created together.
A sudden warmth filled my chest at the thought, this wasn’t just my wedding, it was ours.
The ceremony was breathtaking.
Soft music played as Jason and Anna held my hands, leading me down the aisle.
Guests turned to watch, their eyes filled with admiration and emotion. My parents were seated in the front row, a rare sight. I had taken a leap of faith and invited them, unsure if they would even respond but they did.
For once, my mother wasn’t looking at me with disappointment. My father, though he didn’t walk me down the aisle, still met my gaze, his eyes unreadable but at least he was here.
And then, there was Jeff.
Standing at the altar, waiting for me.
His gaze was locked on mine, filled with so much love and devotion that it nearly took my breath away.
As we reached the front, Jason and Anna carefully placed my hands in Jeff’s before stepping aside.
“You look…” Jeff exhaled, shaking his head slightly as if words failed him, “You look perfect.”
A soft smile tugged at my lips, “You don’t look so bad yourself.”
He chuckled, squeezing my fingers before turning to face the officiant.
The ceremony began and everything around us faded into the background.
We exchanged vows, raw, honest and filled with emotion.
Jeff spoke about our journey, our challenges and how he never wanted to take me for granted again. His voice wavered slightly and for the first time, I saw true vulnerability in his eyes.
I spoke about forgiveness, about love that endured through hardships, about finding a second chance in someone I had once given up on.
There were tears, mine, his and even a few from the guests.
And when the officiant finally said, “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” Jeff wasted no time in sealing the moment.
His lips crashed onto mine, warm and firm, filled with all the emotions words couldn’t express.
Cheers erupted around us. Jason and Anna giggled as they clapped excitedly.
And just like that, we were married. Again.
The reception was nothing short of magical.
Laughter filled the air as guests mingled and the scent of delicious food wafted through the hall.
There were speeches, some emotional, some lighthearted, all filled with love and well wishes.
Games were played, memories were shared and for the first time in a long time, I felt nothing but pure, unfiltered happiness.
I found myself laughing more than I had in years, letting the joy of the moment consume me.
But the best part of the evening was yet to come.
As the music shifted into a slow, romantic tune, the lights dimmed slightly.
I turned just in time to see Jeff approaching, his hand extended toward me.
“Dance with me?” He asked softly.
I placed my hand in his without hesitation, “Always.”
He led me to the dance floor, pulling me into his arms as we swayed to the rhythm.
For a moment, it was just us.
No chaos. No worries.
Just the feeling of his arms wrapped around me, his heartbeat steady against mine.
“Thank you.” Jeff murmured against my ear.
I pulled back slightly, looking up at him, “For what?”
“For saying yes,” he said, his eyes filled with emotion, “For giving me another chance.”
I smiled, brushing my fingers against his cheek, “For us, I’d say yes a thousand times.”
His arms tightened around me, “I swear to you Emma, I will never hurt you again, I will never let you down.”
I believed him.
This time, I truly did.
As the song continued playing, Jeff leaned in, pressing a tender kiss to my lips.
And in that moment, surrounded by love, laughter, and the people who mattered most, I knew we had finally found our happy ending.
THE END.
