I froze. I looked everywhere but Zane’s face. He dropped his cutlery angrily and loudly, in a way that caused Lucas to get frightened in his seat.

“Can both of you take this elsewhere? You can’t do this in front of your kid,” Mrs Shane said, her voice sharp and commanding.

“Sorry, Mum,” I said, getting up from my seat.
