When work ended for the day, I kept going back and forth around Leo’s office, wondering when he would come back. I did that until I gained the courage to ask his secretary stylishly.

He told me he had gone home. Gone home? He didn’t usually go without me? Was it because of the heated argument we had earlier in the day? “You disgust me.” His words hovered in my head, and they hurt me, but I knew it didn't mean them.
