Chapter 3

Tessa hops out of the cab, running her eyes over her attire. Lora chooses to lend her one of her gowns because she doesn't have enough time to go home and freshen up.

The dress fit her nicely, yet it was a touch too tight because she was more plump than Lora. Tessa quickly paid the taxi driver before ringing the doorbell.

After a few seconds, a man wearing a blue and black uniform unlocked the gate. He seems to be the gatekeeper.

Tessa considered and prepared to welcome him, but he beat her to it.

"Are you Ms Tessa? The new nanny?" The elder man enquired, peering intently at her.

Tessa puzzled how he knew her for a time, until she realised his supervisor must have told him of her arrival.

“Yes I am, sir."

“Alright, Please come inside." He says, opening the gate wide for her to enter. Please go in and ring the bell." He instructed her. Tessa nods and walks in the direction he pointed.

After a while, she was led to the living room by a maid, where she spotted a blue-haired man seated on the couch holding a baby.

Tessa had almost lost her footing by the time he raised his head to look at her.

“You're Tessa, right?" His chilly voice sent shivers down her spine. She thought this man was simply too attractive to be among the humans.

“Y…yes I'm Tessa." She feels herself stammer under his piercing gaze. His hazel eyes were doing something to her body that she didn't understand.

“You are one minute late but, I'd let this slide else, you'd have been fired this very minute!" He mentioned something that caused Tessa to have goosebumps on her skin. She had never encountered anybody so handsome, cold, and terrifying.

“Th..Thank you sir." Tessa got a grip of her racing heart.

"Your job here is to take good care of my daughter. If she gets wounded, you will have to pay for it! Your monthly payment is $200,000, and this is an advance payment of $100,000. I need a professional job done, and you must be residing at my place." He explains, and each of his words is like him spitting fire at Tiffany.

Tessa could feel her mouth watering at the amount of money she'd be receiving. She quickly retrieves the envelope holding the advance money from Jerald’s assistant, who was previously standing behind him.

"If you do have any questions, ask now." The clerk spoke to Tessa, who was staring blankly at the envelope in her hands.

“Uhm, must I have to be living here?" Tessa eventually discovers her voice. She was terrified of these individuals, and she was also afraid of leaving Amila alone at home.

“How are you supposed to take care of my kid if you don't live here?" Jerald scoffs, trying not to yell at her as his daughter takes a nap.

“I'm paying you hugely so you'd have all the time to take good care of my daughter."

Tessa intends to oppose again, but then she remembers that no other job would pay her so much money.

“There's no problem sir, I'll do it."

"Good! Because your bag isn't here, you'll have to go collect it once I get back from work.

For the time being, come carry her, and the top maid will escort you to your and my daughter’s rooms.” Jerald stated.

Tessa instantly approaches him as he places the child in her arms.

His hands rubbing across hers almost made her jump from the spark she felt.

She was able to reinterpret her actions after remembering his earlier concern about his child's safety.

Tessa’s gaze rests on the baby's face. She looked so much like her father. Tiffany was overjoyed since the kid was an identical replica of Jerald, and she could stare at her all day instead of her father.

Jerald fixed his attention on his daughter for a moment before moving towards the exit door, Clerk trailing behind him holding his suitcase.

Immediately, the chief maid, Ms. Mariam approaches Tessa.

"Hello, child. I'm Ms. Mariam, and I'm the chief maid here. Come on, let me show you your room and that of Little Boss." Ms. Mariam spoke with a pleasant smile on her face.

“Thanks Ms. Mariam, I'm Tessa and I'm glad to work in the same place as you." Tessa stated as she sensed a startling resemblance to Ms. Mariam.

“Oh, child, you are welcome. I'm sure you'd enjoy working here. Mr. Jerald doesn't mind if you don't step on his toes. Because you are his daughter’s babysitter, you must be extra careful not to damage anything in order to avoid his fury.”Ms. Mariam said as they climbed the stairs upward.

"I understand well, Ms. Mariam. Uh, Ms. Mariam, do you know if the infant has eaten? And what is her name?"Tiffany enquired, recalling she had forgotten to ask Jerald.

“Yes, she has eaten and her name is Dorathy." Ms. Mariam remarked this when they arrived at Tessa’s room.

“This is your room, Dorothy has the opposite room. As her nanny, you must be very near to her in case she requires your attention." Ms. Mariam spoke, and Tessa nodded.

“I understand, Ms. Mariam." She replied with a grateful smile on her face.

"Alright, I believe that's it for now. If you need anything for yourself or the baby, don't hesitate to contact me, okay?" Ms. Mariam asked in a loving tone.

“I'll Ms. Mariam." Tessa spoke, and the chief maid walked out. Tessa enters her new room with the baby in her arms.

She was astonished to see the baby staring at her.
