The stranger's chiseled face and piercing brown eyes seemed to see right through to Amelia's soul, as if he could read her very thoughts. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his tailored suit accentuated his broad shoulders, exuding an aura of authority.
As he locked eyes with Amelia, he was momentarily stunned, his gaze lingering on her face before he composed himself and strode to the front of the celebration with a confident air.
"Good evening, everyone. I'm Ryder, Royal Beta of the Lycan Empire” he said, his voice confident and charismatic, resonating through the hall. “Welcome to the opening celebration of our Lycan Empire. We appreciate you all being here to share this special moment with us,"
Amelia's eyes were fixed on Ryder, her gaze drawn to him like a magnet. She seemed entranced, her breathing shallow and rapid, as if she was struggling to process the intensity of their connection. I could sense her confusion and curiosity, and I knew I had to intervene. As she tried to walk towards him, I gently but firmly held her back, my grip warm and reassuring.
"Stop, you can't go," I whispered, trying to gauge her reaction, my voice soft and gentle against the ongoing conversation. Amelia's eyes sparkled with questions and sadness, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why, Davina? Does he not want me? Why didn't he come to me?" she asked, her words laced with uncertainty and longing.
I smiled reassuringly and pointed towards Ryder. "There's nothing to worry about. Look at him, all his attention is on you." And indeed, despite delivering a speech, Ryder's gaze kept drifting back to Amelia, his eyes locked onto hers with an unmistakable intensity.
As Ryder's eyes met Amelia's, the air seemed to vibrate with tension, the connection between them palpable and electric. It was as if the entire room had melted away, leaving only the two of them, suspended in a sea of anticipation and possibility.
Amelia's face was flushed, her eyes shining with a mix of excitement and trepidation, as Ryder's gaze seemed to hold her captive.
"You have to understand that he's a Beta, and today is a significant day for the Lycans," I said reassuringly, my voice calm and soothing.
The soft glow of the chandeliers cast a warm light on Amelia's face, and I could see the tension in her shoulders begin to ease. "He can't leave his duties; it would look unprofessional." A look of realization dawned on Amelia's face, and she nodded understandingly, her eyes still shining with excitement.
"But now that I've found my mate, and he's a Lycan, I'll have to stay here," Amelia said, a mix of emotions in her voice, her words laced with a hint of uncertainty. "I'll miss you; how can I live without you?" she asked, her eyes welling up with tears, her voice trembling with emotion.
I teased her gently, trying to lighten the mood. "Aren't you the one who was saying you wanted to stay here without leaving? Now you're having second thoughts?"
Amelia's face lit up with a smile, her eyes sparkling with mirth, like a burst of sunshine on a cloudy day. "That was then; now I just can't bear to be apart from you all," she said, her voice filled with longing, her words tumbling out in a rush.
"But you know what? I feel so happy right now; I've never felt this happy before," she exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement, her face radiant with joy, like a flower blooming in the sun. "Leila is pacing in my mind, wishing we could pounce on our mate and be in his arms," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, her words filled with desire.
Amelia's eyes sparkled with mischief, her voice taking on a playful tone. "I'm just using all this talk to divert my attention from him because if not, I'll run to his arms right now," she said, her voice filled with desire, her words hanging in the air like a promise. I smiled knowingly, my heart warming to her enthusiasm. "I know."
“Tonight, we gather to mark a new beginning, a new chapter in our history,” Ryder said, his voice echoing through the room . While he continued his speech, Amelia and I chatted quietly, our conversation a gentle hum in the background.
As we were talking, a maid approached us, her voice respectful and her eyes cast downward, like a shadow in the corner of the room. "Good evening, Beta Ryder said you should follow me; he wants to see you," the maid said, her words brief and to the point.
Amelia looked at me, and I nodded encouragingly, my heart swelling with excitement for her. "Quickly follow her; I'll explain to everyone," I said, nudging her towards the maid with a gentle smile. It seemed Ryder had mind-linked the maid, his message delivered with precision and speed.
Soon, Ryder concluded his speech, his words ringing out across the room, like a call to action. “So let us raise our glasses and toast to new beginnings, to our alliance, and to the bonds and land that unite us. Soon, the royal family will join us,” he said, his voice filled with conviction and purpose.
The room erupted in cheers and applause, the sound of clinking glasses and joyful laughter filling the air. With that, he handed over to the Gamma, his role in the ceremony complete.
As I watched Amelia leave, my thoughts turned to my own situation, and a pang of sadness washed over me, like a dark cloud on a sunny day. The music and laughter of the party seemed to fade into the background, and I felt alone with my thoughts.
Like Amelia, I wished I could find my happiness and mate with my destined mate, but instead, I was bound to mate with Jayden, someone I didn't love, someone who felt more like a duty than a passion.
The thought of it was suffocating, making my heart feel heavy and my soul feel trapped, like a bird in a cage. I wondered where my destined mate was, and if I would ever find him, ever experience the rush of emotions that Amelia was feeling, the thrill of discovering my true mate. The air seemed to thicken with tension as I thought about the expectations that had been laid out for me.
For the first time, I felt a surge of rebellion, a desire to break free from the expectations that had been laid out for me, to forge my own path. I thought about disobeying my parents, about turning my back on the kingdom and its traditions.
The idea was both thrilling and terrifying, a mix of emotions that I couldn't quite untangle. But as I stood there, watching Amelia disappear into the crowd, I knew that I had to think for myself, to make my own decisions, no matter the cost. The realization was empowering, and I felt a sense of determination wash over me, a sense of purpose
After the Beta left, the Gamma also mingled with leaders of the other empires, and the celebration was in full swing, with everyone enjoying themselves.
The music and laughter filled the air, and the scent of food and drinks wafted through the room, making my stomach growl with hunger. Suddenly, a commotion broke out outside, and the Lycan soldiers surrounded some people, escorting them inside with a sense of urgency.
The sound of murmurs and gasps filled the room as they brought him to the front, and he knelt before the Gamma, his head bowed in submission.
“And who are you, what do you what, why are you disturbing the celebration” the Gemma asked the leader among the group of men.
“My name is Asher, and am back to celebrate our race opening to the world” the man said. As they spoke, I learned that he was Asher, the leader of the rebels and the former Gamma who had left with his followers when the Lycans started their seclusion.
“So, why are you here, you are a betrayal, who have left the empire. You don't have the right to celebrate our opening to the world” Gemma said.
“I have realized my mistake and know I was wrong. I would like to come back and serve the empire along with my followers. I promise to be loyal and never ever betrayed our race again. And I will be content with be a normal subject without any position” Asher said.
My body began to feel strange, even more so than it had that morning, and I couldn't understand why. A shiver ran down my spine as I gazed at Asher, and I felt a sense of unease wash over me.
The Gamma said they would wait for the king to arrive and make the decision, and I could sense the weight of the situation. The air seemed to thicken with tension as Asher's presence brought a sense of uncertainty to the celebration. I wondered what would happen next, and what Asher's return would mean for the Lycans and the kingdom.
Suddenly, amidst my discomfort, I caught a whiff of an enchanting and alluring scent. It smelled like rich chocolate, sandalwood, and a hint of refreshing mint, and it was the most amazing smell I'd ever encountered.
The aroma was intoxicating, and my body began to feel refreshed and okay, as if it was the scent that was calming my nerves somehow. My gaze followed the scent to its source, and my eyes landed on the door that the Beta and Gamma had come from.
"And we present the royal family of the Lycan family," the Gamma said, his voice booming through the room. As the Gamma announced the royal family's arrival, I felt a surge of anticipation, my heart racing with excitement. I gazed at the door, my eyes fixed on it, and couldn't help but feel a spark of hope. Perhaps, just like Amelia, my mate would emerge from this door, and our lives would be forever changed.
The thought sent a thrill through me, and I felt a flutter in my chest as I thought about the possibility, like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. The air was thick with tension, and I could smell the sweet scent of success wafting through the room, mingling with the intoxicating aroma that had captured my attention earlier.
I wondered if the mysterious scent was coming from one of them, if the person who belonged to that alluring aroma was about to walk through that door and change my life forever. My anticipation grew, and I felt myself leaning forward, eager to see who would emerge from the door.
The door burst open, and a regal figure strode in, commanding attention and respect. The room fell silent, and all eyes were on the newcomers, as if waiting with bated breath for what would happen next. The air was electric with anticipation, and I held my breath, wondering if my mate was among them, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum.
