Chapter 234 Three Princesses

In the month following Su Yuli's wedding, Gu Yiran would marry Infanta Chengxian, whose father was King Run.

The relationship between King Run and His Majesty was special. They weren't born by the same mother. King Run's biological mother wasn't from a noble family so that she couldn't raise a prince. Therefore, King Run had been raised by Empress Dowager Deng. While Empress Dowager Deng was still alive, King Run had always served Empress Dowager Deng as if she had been his biological mother. Queen Dowager Run often praised Empress Dowager Deng for her virtue.

Because of that, His Majesty paid much attention to his lineal niece's wedding. On the wedding day, he sent his close servant to the mansion with congratulations and gave them a gift as a gesture of goodwill. Since His Majesty had done that, people from the imperial harem wouldn't want to miss out. From Empress Gu to Lady Zhong, they all had sent their close servants to the mansion to add to the festivity.

As Shen Cangfeng and Gu Yiran were friends, Wei Changying should represent her husband by attending the banquet at the mansion of the Gu Family. But the Queen Run was Wei Yanliang, the eldest daughter of the new vice-premier, Wei Yu. Wei Yu was from the collateral branch of Ruiyu Hall.

Wei Yu was a direct person, often advising His Majesty not to waste his time playing around and avoiding work. So His Majesty didn't like him. Even though he was fair to everyone without distinction, more capable than the average, and came from the Wei Family in Fengzhou, nobody had believed he would become one of the highest-ranked officials. He could become a vice-premier because the Family Head of the Wei Family, Wei Huan, had helped a great deal, which was no secret. Wei Yu was an inflexible person. Responding to this surprise, he just wrote a simple letter to thank Wei Huan. When Wei Huan's only lineal granddaughter was married to someone in the capital, he had to give them something as a gift because they were still relatives.

Wei Yu didn't appreciate that so much, but the Queen Run was very grateful to Wei Huan. However, as the Shen Family was in charge of the army, Shen Xuan and Shen Zhou were important officials of the country. It was inappropriate for the Queen Run and Wei Huan to get too close in case people would doubt the intentions of the people in King Run's mansion.

This time her daughter was getting married, so the Queen Run thought she could properly invite her niece to their mansion for a visit. She sent her Granny to the Grand Preceptor's mansion to give them the invitation personally. As Wei Changying was the third daughter-in-law of the Shen Family, the Queen Run then invited everyone in the Shen Family.

But the Shen Family also accepted the invitation from the Gu Family because Gu Yiran's grandmother's surname was Shen. Though her grandmother had passed away, she was Shen Xuan and Shen Zhou's aunt when she was alive.

Therefore, Madam Su and her daughters-in-law decided to go to the two places separately. Mrs. Liu would accompany Wei Changying to the banquet at King Run's mansion, while Madam Su would be accompanied by her second daughter-in-law, Duanmu Yanyu, to go to the Gu Family to congratulate them.

On the day, after Mrs. Liu and Wei Changying saw Madam Su and Duanmu Yanyu get in the carriage, they then got into their separate carriages one after the other.

When they arrived at King Run's mansion, although it wasn't the Queen Run who came out to greet them personally because of her status and seniority, she sent her royal heir's wife to greet them. This royal heir’s wife, Mrs. Zhou, was a daughter of the Zhou Family in Xilin. Her looks were average but she appeared to be very kind. Since Wei Changying's sister-in-law was also there, she followed Mrs. Liu and let her greet Mrs. Zhou. She just occasionally smiled.

Then they entered the room at the back to meet Queen Dowager Run and the Queen Run. The moment she began to curtsy, she was urged to get up. Actually, Wei Changying had met Queen Dowager Run previously at Princess Linchuan's birthday banquet, but the Queen Run didn't attend the banquet. Wei Changying recalled it, remembering the Queen Run hadn’t attended the banquet because of her sickness.

Looking at her, Wei Changying thought the Queen Run was clearly a woman from the Wei Family. The Queen Run resembled Wei Zhengyin. Although she was older, she was still graceful. Today she wore fancy clothes, looking elegant and poised.

After they curtsied, Mrs. Liu apologized on behalf of Madam Su, saying that as the Gu Family also had given them an invitation, Madam Su had had to take her second daughter-in-law with her to the mansion of the Gu Family. She could only accompany her third sister-in-law to come here. The Queen Run's intention in giving them an invitation was to invite Wei Changying. Since the person she really wanted had arrived, she didn't mind that much, saying politely that she could understand this.

And then she turned to Wei Changying, saying warmly, "It's been many years since I said goodbye to you. I didn't know that when we met again, you would already be someone's wife."

Wei Changying guessed from what she had just said that the Queen Run had met her when she was still a baby. She was about to speak when someone came in to report that three princesses, Linchuan, Anji, and Qingxin, had come together to congratulate her.

The three princesses had come together. Even though they were king and queen, they didn't dare to be impolite. Naturally, the Queen Run didn't have time to talk to Wei Changying. Except for Queen Dowager Run, everyone went out to welcome the three princesses.

On the other side, Linchuan and the other two princesses didn't wait in front of the door to be welcomed and then let in, so both groups met each other in the middle courtyard. They greeted each other and went to the back room. Today the three princesses wore colorful clothes and exquisite accessories. Among them, Princess Anji apparently had fewer accessories than Princess Linchuan and Princess Qingxin. But Wei Changying had met the princess three times. And this was the only time she had seen her wearing new clothes.

Wei Changying thought that even her maids, like Zhu Lan and Zhu Shi, wouldn't wear clothes which they had already been wearing for one whole season, as Wei Changying had people sewn a lot of new clothes every year. They were given many new clothes so that they didn't ever wear anything old. As a princess, Princess Anji only had the chance to get new clothes when she came out of the palace to congratulate her cousin on her wedding day. What a poor princess.

Of course, her sympathy for Princess Anji couldn't be noticed by Princess Anji. In fact, although Wei Changying wasn't the only one who had noticed that Princess Anji was wearing new clothes today, Princess Anji didn't feel sorry for herself. She confidently curtsied to Queen Dowager Run and the Queen Run with her sisters, and received curtsies from Mrs. Zhou, Mrs. Liu, and Wei Changying, who happened to be present and came to welcome them. She looked calm, smiling slightly. It didn't seem that she was feeling humiliated or resentful. Even though she was also a princess and she was treated worse than her other sisters, she looked poised.

Perhaps Princess Linchuan had been bullied by Anji so much that she was afraid of her. When Anji was at her side, she felt uncomfortable. Wei Changying had seen how sad she looked the other day. This time, as the eldest sister of the three princesses, Princess Linchuan greeted the people from King Run's Mansion. She didn't look as proud as how she had been on her birthday banquet but seemed disheartened.

Not having spoken much, Princess Linchuan said, "Let's go see our cousin."

The Queen Dowager Run and the Queen Run knew of the dispute between Princess Linchuan and Princess Anji. Seeing the three of them come together, it gave them a headache. Since they couldn't ask them to walk on their own, they were worried that as Linchuan and Anji were together, they might cause trouble on Infanta Chengxian's wedding day. They allowed them to go with a slightly forced smile, asking Mrs. Zhou to take them there.

Mrs. Liu and Wei Changying thought they were just guests, so they just needed to accompany them and curtsy. There was no need to talk. They thought the princesses would leave shortly, and they just continued to talk with the Queen Dowager Run and the Queen Run.

Nobody had expected that as the three princesses were about to move away, Princess Qingxin suddenly lifted her chin to Wei Changying, saying, "Come with me. I have something to ask you later."

Mrs. Liu and Wei Changying were stunned. Both of the sisters-in-law thought about what had happened to them with Wei Changjuan on Su Yuli's wedding day. Mrs. Liu essentially knew all the relationships between noble ladies in the capital, and Wei Changying had heard Wei Changjuan bragging about her good relationship with several princesses in the palace.

Could it be that Wei Changjuan had been angry after she returned, so she told tales to the princesses?

Wei Changying frowned without being noticed, saying, "Her Royal Highness, if you need me, I will obey and be with you."

Mrs. Liu secretly pulled her sleeve, whispering, "I will ask the Queen Run to send someone to call you back later."

The worry of both of the sisters-in-law came true. The moment she left Queen Dowager Run and the Queen Run, Princess Qingxin snapped, "I heard that you think you are Changjuan's older cousin, so you deliberately bullied Changjuan, right? How could you be like that as her older cousin?"

On hearing the unreasonable lie, Wei Changying felt she was tired of it. She couldn't help but think of her instructor Jiang Zheng, "That day, Uncle Jiang was slandered by the Crown Prince Shen Xun on the street. He is a martial arts master but he couldn't fight back because of Shen Xun's power. He had to let Shen Xun's people beat him up. And now Princess Qingxin wants to do the same to me?"

As she was thinking that, she didn't answer Princess Qingxin immediately. Princess Qingxin became even angrier, suddenly standing still. Her baby-like but beautiful face was full of annoyance, and she said loudly, "Since you aren't willing to answer my question, just kneel here. Kneel for three days and three nights, and think what you have done wrong!"

The royal heir’s wife, Mrs. Zhou, who led the way in front, heard her voice and hurriedly came over. She heard her and quickly said to ease the situation, "Her Royal Highness, please calm down. My cousin Wei is willing to answer your questions. Perhaps things were so complicated that my cousin Wei needs to think it over before she can answer it." Then she gestured to Wei Changying with her eyes.

Wei Changying held back her anger, saying, "There were many people at the banquet that day. As for who is right and who is wrong, everyone has his own opinion. Her Royal Highness, if you say something like this, I really don't know how to response!"

Princess Qingxin said angrily, "Didn't you hear what I said? I'm asking you now!"

"Qingxin, you mean what happened on Su Yuli's wedding day?" Princess Linchuan suddenly spoke up unexpectedly, saying, "You are deceived by Wei Changjuan. I've heard several people talk about what happened that day. It is Wei Changjuan herself who did wrong. It seems that she said she would apologize to Wei Changying later. Why do you think it was Wei Changying who bullied Wei Changjuan?"

The royal heir’s wife, Mrs. Zhou, said, "Princess Linchuan, you are totally right. That day..."

"How could Wei Changjuan be bad?" Princess Qingxin saw that her sister and her cousin's wife were helping Wei Changying to argue against her. Feeling that she was isolated, she was very angry. She was young and she enjoyed being pampered, so she was used to doing whatever she wanted. She then became more unreasonable, saying, "Being with me, Wei Changjuan has always been the most well-behaved and considerate. Why was she not good when she met Wei Changying? It must be that Wei Changying is bad!"

Wei Changying was incredibly disgusted by and hated Empress Gu and her children. She thought quickly, saying indifferently, "Perhaps the reason is that I didn't give in to her that much as her cousin."

"Nonsense!" Princess Qingxin put her hands on her hip. She was determined to argue with her, saying arrogantly, "I didn't give in to Wei Changjuan either!"

Princess Linchuan wanted to say more, but Princess Anji, who had picked on her over everything, suddenly snorted with laughter, saying, "Qingxin, you are really disgraceful!"

Princess Qingxin was the youngest lineal daughter of His Majesty and Empress Gu. Her status was the highest even among all the princesses and princes, so she had never been criticized like this. She became furious instantly, turned her head to them, and yelled, "B*tch born by Zhenyi, you dare to criticize me like this!"

When Anji’s mother was insulted, Anji put on a long face. She didn't just stand still, being afraid of Qingxin's status and her being favored. Instead, she suddenly pushed Qingxin so hard that Qingxin almost fell over. As she pushed hard and Qingxin was young, Qingxin took several steps back. Since Princess Qingxin had stood in front of Wei Changying to question her, she tumbled into Wei Changying immediately.

Qin'ge, the chief maid behind Wei Changying, helped her to stand up, but Qingxin didn't appreciate it. She pushed Qin'ge away. Because she moved so quickly, her arm was pricked by something. She just left it and was about to jump on Anji to fight, "Daughter of Zhenyi b*tch, you dare to push me! Do you think I am the sixteenth sister?"

What she said made Princess Linchuan very embarrassed. She had wanted to venture to stop them from arguing. After all, she was the oldest among the three princesses. They had come to their uncle's mansion to congratulate their cousin. They hadn't seen their cousin yet, but two sisters had started to fight. She had the responsibility for this issue, too. But as what Princess Qingxin had said was nasty, Princess Linchuan bit on her teeth, just simply stood still, and said, "My sisters, stop it. We are in uncle Run's mansion!"

Qingxin rushed at Anji. Princess Anji, the seventeenth princess, had beaten Princess Linchuan, the sixteenth princess, many times. Qingxin was still a child, so she was no match for this sister. This time, Wei Changying saw how ruthless Princess Anji was. Thanks to her height, she grabbed hold of Princess Qingxin's double buns with her hands and pressed her down hard!

Princess Qingxin cried out in pain and kept calling the insult "Zhenyi B*tch". Princess Anji pressed on her head, kicked her, looked extremely angry, and insulted her too, "Badly behaved thing. Who do you think my biological mother is to you? Even our mother has never said anything like that to my biological mother! Who do you think you are? You are loved by our father and mother, so you behaved badly. You have disgraced us all! You are a trouble maker!"

Princess Linchuan just spoke without moving, and Wei Changying enjoyed seeing Princess Qingxin being beaten. But Mrs. Zhou, the royal heir’s wife, was extremely worried. She and the maidservants immediately came to them to stop them from fighting, "Her Royal Highness! Her Royal Highness! Stop this. Stop it! Let's talk calmly. You are in the same family. There is no need to fight!"

Princess Qingxin felt it hurt, being kicked. She cried, making a fuss, "Who is in the same family with this woman born by a b*tch? My mother has always said in private that she is no good!"

Princess Anji said immediately, "Mother has said this about me? Good. You come with me to the palace now. I will ask our mother what I have done wrong, so I can change it."

While she was talking, she dragged Princess Qingxin back with force.

Princess Qingxin refused. During their argument, Anji pulled so hard that Qingxin fell down to the ground. But Anji still dragged her hard across the pebbles. Everyone could clearly hear Princess Qingxin crying and howling. As an onlooker, Wei Changying was observant. She saw two red marks on the pebbles where Qingxin had been dragged along because the little princess was so delicate. Just being dragged like that, her knees were already injured.
