Chapter 5

BLAIR'S POV

The Harrington party was this Saturday, and I had spent the whole week going through our proposal for the business deal.

The week had been a very busy one for me because, apart from preparing for the proposal, news of my failed engagement with Ivan was all over the place, with reporters coming to meet me for interviews, but I turned them down.

I still had a lot to do with Ivan, which included going to the media, but I knew that it was not yet time. The flash drive I had received still had other incriminating pieces of evidence against Ivan and Mira, but I was going to take it one step at a time.

There was already news going on that Ivan's business was suffering some losses, and investors were skeptical about working with him. That was enough for now to get him all worked up.

I was going to lay low for the main time so he would get comfortable and let his guard down, and then I would strike when he least expected, but for now, my goal was to get the deal with the Harrington Empire and find out why he was helping me.

......

Saturday came, and I got ready for the event at the Harrington Empire.

In my first life, my father had begged me to go to the event as his representative, but I refused because Blake Harrington was Ivan's rival. I remembered my father had lost the deal, and it was a fierce lady from another company who had won the deal.

This time around, I was wiser and more confident, and I was going to make sure I got the deal.

When I arrived at the Harrington estate, I was awed by the sight in front of me. The whole place was screaming luxury. I got inside after showing the bouncers at the door my invitation card.

The hall was beautifully done, and I could not help but marvel at the place. I was looking around when someone suddenly bumped into me, and the drink in the person's hand spilled on me.

I looked at my dress in anger and faced the person. It was the lady who had won the business deal in my first life. Her name was Isabella Brown. I had done my research and knew how arrogant she was because of her prestige and beauty, but I was not moved by her.

I knew a lot of people were looking for ways to get close to her, while some were afraid of her, but I was not among them.

She had ruined my dress, and she was not even apologetic about it.

"Aren't you going to apologize?" I demanded from her.

"Apologize for what? You were the one who was not paying attention to where you were going, so why should I take the blame for your clumsiness?" She mocked, running her hands through her hair.

I was stunned by her audacity, but if she thought I was going to back down, she was mistaken.

"You are the one to blame her, Miss, and if you don't apologize, I'm going to do the same to you!" I warned her.

She looked at me in disgust and burst into laughter.

"So says the person whose fiancé cheated on her with her best friend." She mocked.

By this time, a little crowd had gathered around us, so they heard what she said, and I was embarrassed by their laughter.

"How dare you!" I retorted, hurt.

"How dare I? I bet you don't know who you are talking to, young lady. I am Isabella Brown, and I'm sure that you do not want to cross paths with me." She said with a hint of warning in her voice.

I knew Isabella to be a dangerous person, but having been given a second chance at life, I was not going to be intimidated by anyone or anything.

"Look, I don't care who you are or what your name is, but you will apologize for your attitude right now!" I demanded from her, but Isabella only laughed.

"Come on, girl, I bet if you had half the guts you are using to talk to me right now, your fiancé would not have gotten your best friend pregnant right under your nose!" She mocked again.

The people started laughing and whispering again, and I got so angry that I picked up a glass of red wine and poured it on her white dress.

The laughter of the people turned into shocked gasps while Isabella's face was filled with horror.

If not for the situation at hand, I would have laughed at her.

"What? How dare you!" Isabella screamed. "You are dead meat!" She added in fury.

Isabella raised her hand to hit me, but someone held it.

"She is a special guest, so you cannot hit her." A familiar voice said.

I turned to look at the face and saw that it was my blue-eyed helper, only this time, he was looking more handsome than ever.

I saw Isabella gasp as she shifted backward. I wondered who he was to make the almighty Isabella this scared.

I was stunned to see Blake Harrington in all his beauty. I was blown away, stunned into silence as I looked at him. I had never seen any man as handsome as he was. He was tall, he had broad shoulders, and a personality that commanded attention.

I was aware of how silent the hall had fallen. Everyone was looking at him, and I could not blame them. It was hard to tear my gaze away from him.

I googled him and found no pictures. He was a man who valued his privacy, and yet, there he was, looking at me in a way that sent shivers down my spine.

"Are you okay?" He turned to me and asked in the most gentle voice ever.

"Yes...I am.." I stammered.

He took out his handkerchief and started cleaning my body.

I felt a shiver run through me as his fingers touched me. I have never felt this way before, even with Ivan.

There was an effect this beautiful stranger was having on me, and it was making me feel uncomfortable, so I shifted back.

He was handsome, that was clear, but what did he want from me? Why had he helped me? What did he want?

He seemed surprised by my action and raised his brows at me in confusion.

I was about to say something to him when Isabella suddenly moved closer to him.

"Mr. Blake Harrington, who is she to you?" Isabella asked him.

"She is my girlfriend!" He said, and my eyes widened in shock even as everyone gasped in surprise.
