Draven told me yesterday that we’d go see my mother this morning. When we wake up, he immediately calls my mom to find out her location. But after another call, Draven announces that it’s best—and safer—if my mother comes to his bar instead.

It’s mid-afternoon when we hear a car pull into the driveway. Draven helps me get ready and we head into The Grit through a back door, the cane he bought for me tapping gently against the floor.
