Lara stood in front of the Scofield mansion, the rain misting down just enough to dampen her hair and darken the edge of her coat. She pressed the doorbell—once, sharply. The sound echoed through the marble halls inside.

Moments later, the door cracked open and the housekeeper appeared, her expression polite but cautious. “Excuse me, ma’am,” she began, clutching the edge of the door. “Who are you here to see?”
