Gray POV

The night had a pulse..It throbbed outside my office window — the city, glowing, breathing, alive in all the wrong ways. I sat behind my desk, cigarette burning low between my fingers, the smoke curling upward like ghosts of past mistakes.

The door opened without a knock. Only one man in this house had the nerve to do that.
