Megan’s point of view

We burst through sliding doors. The ceiling lights were so bright they hurt. Faces hovered—nurses, a doctor with gray at his temples, another with a messy bun under a cap. They talked to each other in words that sounded far away.

“Megan,” the gray-templed doctor said, leaning into my line of sight. “I’m Dr. Reed. You’re at the hospital. You’re bleeding a lot. We need to act quickly. I’m going to ask you some questions.”
